I just read their " halting ssri " instructions. Not any advice that I

would give someone. Adding Valium, adding Anafranil, adding Aricept!!!

Sorry, I won't encourage someone to treat a drug reaction with

another off label use drug.

Hi –

This withdrawal protocol was submitted by Dr Healy – it's not the

view of those who work the board – but the board owner wants it

there.

However - I would like to point out that it does not say add this and

add that and the suggestions made are only for those having problems

with severe withdrawal..

It suggests swapping from a short halflife SSRI to one with a longer

halflife – but the writer stresses that this is not without it's

problems as all SSRIs are different unlike benzodiazepines which

chemically are almost identical.

It suggest swapping from an SSRI to anafranil / Clomipramine because

it has a longer halflife and the tablets / capsules come in small mg

increments making a slow taper easier when liquids are not

available. Liquids are not available worldwide.

The writer does not say add donepezil / Aricept – but does

says " Donepezil has appeared to be helpful in some cases of difficult

withdrawal. " – it increases Cortical acetylcholine which may help

rebalance the system disrupted by SSRIs - presumably he has found

this out through his working practice.

With regard Valium – it is to my knowledge and experience the only

effective treatment that addresses severe akathisia.

I don't, personally, have a problem with using Valium to help people

come off SSRIs, as long as it's only for short term panic type

situations and not used on a daily basis for any length of time.
