That figures.

Extra virgin olive oil (EVO) is very anti-inflammatory - loaded with

antioxidant (one of the strongest ones known to exist) and omega-9

(oleic acid) fatty acid.

ALL the other plant oils are inflamamtory.

Also - the more saturated fat you eat, (or heaven forbid trans fat) the

more EVO you need to counter the inflammation from saturated fat. The

idea is to eat a net anti-inflammatory diet.

So you need to get your EVO back. (The extra virgin aspect is relevant

too! It has the most antioxidant and oleic acid)

The other anti-inflamamtory oil is fish oil.

Namaste,

Irene

This makes sense. When I ran out of EVO, I substituted butter (I already did

a bit of butter) so that that was all the fat I was getting. I need to get

some more EVO, you're right. I also cut back on my fish oils because I was

trying to conserve because our money has been beyond tight lately.

Thanks... I will up everything now and consider it a complete necessity!!

Hi Ed,

I don't think you will have any trouble riding your motor bike. Some here

ride horses and I guess it is easier to get on the bike than a horse.

if you read some of the past emails on the list you will see the

posibilities are endless. Also check out the hip data base where people

have recorded the outcome of their hip surgery.

Welcome to the list, I hope it will provide the information and support you

need for this surgery.

Hi Ed. Arthur here (near burg!)

I'm 58. I had a THR on November 10. You will have to

observe hip precautions for as long as your doctor

says--sometimes that's for 2 or 3 months, sometimes

longer, sometimes for life. That depends on the kind

of implant you have, the surgery, your age, activity,

and other factors, all of which your doctor will

evaluate and tell you how long to observe them. For

riding, I'm guessing that means not closing the hip

angle less than 90 degrees. You can probably make some

adjustments to the motocycle seat to accommodate your

riding, when your doctor gives your the OK.

Have you discussed this with your doctor? I'm sure

that if you describe your riding needs (and maybe even

show him the bike), he can tell you what you need to

do.

---Hi Ed,

Before you set a date to have a hip replacement, please check out hip

resurfacing. It's much kinder to folks who want to stay active and

keep full range of motion. The head of the femur in left intact and

is fitted with a cap that keeps the natural size of the femur.

I am 62 and had my hip resurfaced at age 61 in Columbia, South

Carolina by Dr Gross. he's awesome as a surgeon and is about

the most down-to-earth and patient man I've ever met.

Find out more at a site called Surfacehippies here;

Ed- I had my hip resurfaced by a Rothman Institute doctor in October.

You may be eligible for that procedure. You can look it up online by

googling BHR hip resurfacing. The Doctor who did mine is

Hozack, & is very good.

I couldn't believe that it cost $30,000 to $40,000 I don't think mind cost that much ,my Hip didn't turn out liked I thought it would:-(Well you take care and have a Happy Holiday :-) Susie <flotsam@...> wrote: Ed- I had my hip resurfaced by a Rothman Institute doctor in October. You may be eligible for that procedure. Hi Susie- Resurfacing was just approved in the USofA in May. It has

been done in the UK & around the world for about 11 years, including

trials. Go to the group surfacehippy to find more out. Or you

can ask me more specifics & I'll answer as I can. Resurfacing uses

the head of the femur as part of the armature, so you lose less bone,

& can get a THR later if needed. Plus it is metal on metal with a

large head & socket, & able to support normal weight bearing from what

I understand.

Peace

I haven't heard of it, but I haven't researched it, either. You might want to

ask your pharmacist.

Hi Jen,

This is from Melbourne Florida. I flew out of

Orlando and back without any problem. Just take it

slow and allow plenty of time so that you are not in a

rush.

Someone had an " experience " so I will suggest that you

bring a carry on bag with a change of underware,

slacks and a plastic bag...(you can tell where I am

going with this one) I was fine, and I would say that

99% of everyone does not have a problem, but just in

case, it would probably be worth the little extra

effort.

Good Luck, everything will go great.

Hi and welcome!! This tool can definitely help!! Many on here have lost well over 100 lbs and you can too! I think going into this, that a realistic outlook will help too. Be patient if nothing else! The first 6weeks are for HEALING not weight loss..which may or may not happen. The fills are the key to not feeling hungry and being satisfied with smaller portions. Some people have fills and are tight from them every-time, others may take a few trys 2,3,4 to get filled up. Don't get discouraged with little weight loss initially or the fill process. I told my self going into this that I had to give it at-least a year to lose my 60+lbs. That would be 5lbs a month on average and if I could do better than that great!! It takes some getting used to but everybody figures it out at their own pace. Walk, Walk & Walk some more! After surgery to relieve the gas in your chest and then for exercise..it really helps the scale move!! That's the only form of exercise I have done...no marathons for me... just walking the dog, taking the stairs, parking far away from the entry ect...EXPECT to throw-up (pb-ing) & have thick mucus to spit out (slimimg).

Although it may not happen to you...expect it and it won't be so shocking if it does. Most of us have or do. It's part of the band and less is best. In time you learn how to not do it! :-) The fight home is MOST uncomfortable...but my bed was my reward!,worth the trip! Post on here often, ask questions, weird pains and sensations are normal but ask about them to confirm it's normal...anything..just ask!

I wish you all the best...you'll do terrific!..I just know it! Dana

Welcome to the group. I stumbled across this group too.

I always new that I had allergies, found out the hard way about aspirin...then later diagnosed with asthma. Then my polyps "literally" started popping out of my nose. How embarrassing for a 20 year old! The doctor of course performed surgery to remove them. I was a dumb bunny, I thought I was cured!

Then 2 years later, I went in for a general check up saying I had sinus headaches that would turn into Migraines. The doctor said, "Oh yeah? Point to your head and tell me where the pains start and seem to end." So pointing to my forehead, through my eye, ending up on my cheek bone. Or my cheek bone going to my ear and up and over my forehead. That's when the doctor said... FACIAL PAIN caused by swelling of the polyps. And when the polyps and infection go untreated, what seems like a simple sinus headache turns into those god-awful Migraines where, dark, silence, and oblivion are welcome.

As soon as I start with my symptoms I usually take Excedrin Migraine or Tylenol w/ caffeine AND an ice-pack to the affected area. (not to mention the daily allergy, asthma, & flonase meds). Now that I've had these recurring symptoms for 3 weeks - I break down and contact the ENT. Oh yeah, the doc put me on Prednisone and Antibiotics... I'm dreading to see what he wants to do, I don't want to go to surgery #7. Sorry for the chattiness... it's the steroids. Hopefully my dialog might be of some assistance to you.

I think my body just took a natural dislike to beer & wine. I don't like the taste, but the very few times I've had it - swelled up nose and a headache are the result. And since I try to stay away from perfumes, hairsprays, cigarette smog, etc. my partying days ended and I now do small gatherings at my home or select environments.

Best of luck!

Hello

I just stumbled on to this site one hour ago. I am in my early 40'sand have had Samter's since I was 22. I took a beta blocker calledInderal for migrains. Within a week I had astha symptoms and a badnose. Three nasal surgeries later I am still suffering daily with it.Singulair helped for about 12 months and then the constant inflamednose started up again. I go on 4 to 5 courses of prendizone a year. I can usually tell when my body can handle a beer or glass of wine. Istill have a migraine about once every 3 months. I used to have themonce every three days. Barometric pressure also effects my nose. Didany of you in the forum have there Samters preceeded by migraines?

Hi , The best defence you have against someone none acceptance or negative

influence is your own self acceptance .This important to realize you have the

Yes, I will use your suggestions! Thank you. No, unfortunately I

cannot get rid of the person. He is my husband of 15 years, and we

just had twins about 16 months ago, so I am here. I try not to hear

the things he says to me and about others since trying to say

positive things to him in response only results in arguments. The

technique of " tuning out " has resulted in some positive steps for

me, emotionally. Yes, those things are definitely his issues, and I

have stepped away from them, but your suggestion helps me stick to

that resolve. Thanks again for your kind response. Peace.

Hi Nettie,

Glad you are here. What type of thyroid hormone did your Dr.

originally Rx?

What are you on now?

So, do I understand correctly that your thyroid goiter/nodules are

gone? And you've only used bladderwrack?

Could you go into more detail on this?

>Hello ,

Thank you for the welcome. First let me explain that I took control

of my health back in the early 80's, and have treated any ailments

by natural means since that time, today at 69 I am completely drug

free, still work several days a week and feel great. A great deal

of research was done before I decided to try natural instead of RX

for any condition. Anything I say is not a recommendation, but only

what worked for me. Having said all of this, I will try to answer

your questions in the order which you asked them.

I am trying to go back about 5 years, but from The Pill Book, the Rx

looked like Levoxyl, the same book states the usual initial dose is

as little as 25 micrograms a day; then increased in steps of 25

micrograms once every 3 or 4 weeks. Perhaps this is why I got

headaches ?

Since I read about painting on the Iodine about 2 or 3 years ago,

that is all I have done once a week, but after joining this site, I

don't think once a week is enough, so am going to increse that.

I was taking Bladderwrack before I started painting the Iodine on my

body. Yes, my goiter is gone and I went from a neck filled with

nodules, which the Dr.was talking about doing a biopsy on, down to

one, that they do an ultrasound on every year when I have my

checkup. Maybe if I increase my Iodine intake that one will

disappear also. Every Thyroid test comes back perfect.

I have tried to keep this brief, if you want more information about

what I found out when I was doing my research, please feel free to

contact me.
