(Washington, DC) – As the Food and Drug Administration celebrates its

100th anniversary this week, consumers still find themselves at risk

from dangerous medicines that the FDA was created a century ago to

protect them from.

Families who recently lost loved ones to some of these prescription

drugs will be on Capitol Hill Thursday to ask why Congress hasn't

held hearings on bills that would dramatically improve our nation's

drug safety laws and stop the drug industry from hiding important

safety information.

Who: Families of victims of unsafe prescription medications;

DeLauro (CT), Jim Ramstad (MN), Reps. Maurice Hinchey (NY) , F.

Tierney (MA)

Why: To urge Congress to pass stalled drug safety measures:

• Public drug trial registry

• Post-market safety monitoring and enforcement

• Limiting new drug advertising and marketing

I got a phone call today asking If I was going. I have

not heard anything about it. This gentleman is comming

from NJ. It is the first I have heard about any of

this. He said something about Consumer union being

there. I am out on a limb with this one. I cant find

any info on the CU website. The contact I have is

Foley. I am awaiting her answer.

Maggs, I just talked to Vansykel, she is down there already. I

left a message for Liz, but said no invitation needed. The press

conference in at the Cannon Building at 12:30pm. I'm driving down in

the morning, so I hope to see you there. If I hear from Liz I'll let

you know. CU really has to get better communication of this stuff!
