Guest guest
Dr. Dennis O'Leary, Carole Aly, 603/792-5700, just informed me that I have applied too late to meet the " 5 working days in advance rule " to have a " public information interview " during the JCAHO tri-annual survey of Read MHC to be conducted this Wednesday, 6/16. This requirement to register 5 days in advance; so that everyone can prepare and make arrangements seems to be excessive in these days of instant communication. Read MHC is obligated to announce this survey to the public for 30 days before the survey. I will verify that in the next hour. The survey results will be confidential which doesn't seem to me to be in the best interest of the public. Already I noticed the the READ MENTAL HEALTH CENTER is evaluated as a hospital which it is not. The last evaluation on 5/23/2001 indicated that " assessing staff competence " received a 5 (1-5 where 1 is highest) as did 16% of the ohter " hospitals " in the. This is in keeping with my observations. Only " medication use " received an equally low score " . The survey is available at: http://www.jcaho.org/qualitycheck/pds/prg_prnt.asp?program=2 I was out of town assisting two other mentally labelled people from 6/2 to 6/10, but I am surprised that no other mental health organization that I am a member of brought up the importance of this tri-annual survey. Perhaps someone will have to cancel at the last moment. In any case I would appreciate being invited to participate since I have been a full time volunteer mental health advocate specializing at the Read MHC and the Grow and WRAP programs. My clients range from family members to patients at Read, the Joliet TDF, Chester MHC, Cork Ireland and Portadown in Northern Ireland. I am also linked to many online organizations like SSRI medications which has 350+ members. I have testifed before the President's New Freedom Commission and the IL House of Representatives. I also supported speakers at the FDA Mtg in DC last February. I have complete the first of 4 courses in counseling and my undergraduate degree is in psychology. I am a member of many psychological organizations. If I don't get an chance to speak, the public will miss a golden opportunity.
