In Order To Remember, We Must Never Forget.....

Our differences meant little

the day I found you lying there,

dying.

My heart reached out to you as if I had known you forever~

and all the wretched and selfish thoughts

that usually cloud my mind

had vanished into a pure and holy love~

My only prayer would become

that I could give life back to yours.....

You opened your eyes and I was held.

Captured in the depth of a gaze that went beyond any spirituality I had ever

known,

though strangers,

you reached to take my hand

and held it tightly~

as if

to comfort me

In that very moment of time we had the same God~

the differences of skin

within our hands held

could not be seen~

and

I cried silently for your family

who had just become mine~

This being perhaps

the only real truth

I have ever lived~

or loved.

Please accept this writing as my extended hand to you......

to hold you through all the death of life,

and

all the life that is left~

Let us look together towards the restoration of decency,

for that which symbolizes the end of difference,

and the beginning of strength~

In unity~ with one mind

that becomes one heart~

Let this love be the courage that creates justice,

and in this,

let it be the wisdom of love~ that conquers all~

May we always remember

that America is a person~

whose spirit can only be kept alive in love~

It is

and will forever be

with a pure and holy love
