The University of land Medical System has announced the

resignations of land General Hospital President D.

, laboratory Administrative Director and Dr.

Philip Whelan, director of the hospital's lab and the department

of pathology. In reviews prompted by concerns over the validity

of hundreds of HIV and hepatitis C lab tests conducted at the

hospital between June 2002 and August 2003, the land

Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the Centers for Medicare

and Medicaid Services, and the Joint Commission on Accreditation

of Healthcare Organizations all found shortcomings in the lab's

operations.
