Guest guest
Dear Mystery Guest, Praise the Lord!!! You are such an inspiration. Got to do a lot of fast typing to get ready for a pre review by a Domminick's employee at 10. Like you she prefers to remain a mystery. Can someone commit to doing the actions below and get back to me in 2 hours? I'm throwing together a rough draft for the 10 AM review. 1) see if you can find the JCAHO definition/criteria for treatment center online. 2) find where Read does not meet the criteria or fails in its basic requirements 3) of course they try to keep out public comment; if you can prove that they are, that's where you can have a " leg to stand on " 4) realize that they're probably dotting their i and crossing their t's in every chart and cleaning up every unit for this accreditation thing. that doesn't mean that they've provided the services they are documenting. (and almost always there are things " made up " ) 5) find where JCAHO typically cites mental health facilities as in (1) and play to that. are they overcrowded? properly staffed? providing the services they are documenting? violating HIPAA? infringing upon basic human rights? are there mice in the bedrooms? etc. have they been abusive (keep in mind you'll need evidence for a charge so serious)? My guess is that your very best bet is to find what facilities/hospitals in the Midwest are being cited for and try to lead them to those citations. Read the JCAHO requirements/accreditation standards and find what they're looking for. Don't focus on the issue of is this a " treatment center " versus whatever. They don't give a damn about that. They do care about the facility meeting their requirements and standards and then they'll get a little hissily if they find those violations. , this is how they lose their accreditation. It is considered very bad if they lose their accreditation, this is a wonderful time to focus on it. My advice is try to expose where the facility is falling short of the requirements/standards. JCAHO will care about that. The facility will be minding it's ps and qs, but there's always something to be found. Sometimes, you have to lead them of where to look. Not sure you have enough time to lead them exactly where. Get a sense by reading the standards first and start from there. Focus on facts that you can back up or find some suggestions and gently suggest that they look there. (for example, you could say that you know that a treatment center is required to provide a minimum of _hours of therapy a week, and in your interactions and reports from the patients, it seems that the average hours a weeks is 0.2 hours; though they might be documenting it, perhaps you (JCAHO) could corroborate this somewhat by chatting with the patients if you are willing to do a more in-depth investigation and rely upon the word of patients.......) problem is that the charts and patients that they usually select to be seen/reviewed are handpicked and probably are either nonverbal or sing the praises of Read, etc. Good luck. I trust that you will keep the source of this suggestion to yourself--thanks. F.
