The terrorist attacks on New York and Washington D.C. are the most evil, malicious and destructive acts ever committed in our history. The number of deaths and the scope of devastation are almost to enormous to comprehend. We are all shocked and appalled. This is not just an attack against America. It is an attack by cowards on our entire way of life. These people and their supporters are totally opposed to our ideals of freedom, democracy, openness, honesty and enterprise. But they shall not succeed. We are too strong. We love our country and what she stands for. We will never be shaken in our resolve to stand up for what we know is good and true. The perpetrators of these crimes can run, but they cannot hide. This deed of mass murder is too terrible ever to be forgiven or forgotten. They, and the people and states that finance and encourage them, have sullen the wind and they will reap the whirlwind. Irrespective of party, we are all Americans, and we have good, competent, intelligent and experienced men and women in positions of power and authority. Our leaders will not shrink from their duty to search out the poisonous roots of this evil plant and rip them out once and for all. Our job, our responsibility as Americans, is to stand up and stand together at this time of crisis. In our hearts, we mourn with the families of the dead. In our spirits, we must be doubly committed to preserving and furthering the noble goals and ideals of this great society in which we live. We will carry on. We will rebuild. We will confront and face down any and every attempt to hurt our people and our system of government. As Luther King said, “We shall overcome.” And whoa be to those who dare to take arms against us.
