Hi Crusaders!

My name is Leah, I live in Washington, DC and I may know some of you

already! I joined this list a couple of weeks ago and am really glad to

have access to all these articles and info.

My story in a nutshell: I am currently 28, but was a Prozac guinea pig as a

kid. I was diagnosed with depression at the age of 7, and was first on

tricyclics. I was put on Prozac when I was 12 in 1988, shortly after it

came on the market. I experienced all the side effects they're talking

about now in the news (akasthisia, insomnia, suicidality, self-mutilation),

but it was just blamed on my worsening " illness. " I also experienced the

joys of Paxil and Zoloft, before taking myself off all psych drugs in 1993

when I turned 18. I've been SSRI-free for the last 10 years and they have

been the best of my life. The news coming out of the UK about kids and

SSRIs feels really vindicating, and I am now working to raise awareness

about SSRIs here in the US.

Is anyone in the DC area? I'm always looking for local allies :)

best

Leah
