" Schools Warn Parents on Shots "

Washington Times (08/17/04) Wagner, Arlo

The District of Columbia Department of Health is warning that students who

have not received the full round of required immunizations will not be

allowed to attend classes when school begins on September 1. Dr. Karyn Berry

of the city's health department notes that while an estimated 5,000 students

are currently without vaccinations, that number has been reduced from about

11,000 at this time last year. The school system provides a number of

incentives, such as free shots and the threat of a fine, to encourage

parents to have their children immunized on time

That area needs to be blanketed heavily with flyers explaining local

exemptions and that they are NOT mandatory! How can they impose a

fine?? That should be illegal! Not that various branches of the

government and depts. of the government don't do that on a regular basis

anyways. Sigh!

Yah, they want their $50-$100 per fully vaxed student. The pretty dollar

comes from Health and Human Services. How dare any parents get in the way

of that.
