That is pretty much what did at Down Home Ranch last year, and what

she expects to do this year. She will be going this coming Sunday.

can't wait to get there, she loves it so much. Down Home Ranch confines its

campers to high-functioning, well-behaved teens and adults, which makes the

experience more pleasant for everyone. The only thing she complained about

was the food. " Too much sugar. " I passed on that complaint to the staff.

I want to take this opportunity to publicly thank the Up With Downs

Foundation for awarding a scholarship to attend. After being totaled

by Hurricane Ike, we feared we would not be able to afford 's

attendance this year. Thanks to Up With Downs, she can.

I personally favor the Almond Milk - unsweetended Almond Breeze - original or vanilla.  40 calories per 8 oz serving.  Quite tasty.  Does not leave me with the nasty milk mouth after taste effect.  It is a light/clean tasting milk alternative.  I have also done the unsweetended soy milk, but really prefer the almond milk now.

Obviously the almond milk won't work if you have nut allergies.  Trader Joes and Whole Foods both carry the almond milk.  I believe it runs about 2 dollars for the 32 ounce containers that do not need to be refridgerated until opened.  The Lunds near me carries a 64 oz (half gallon) size in the refridgerator case for $3.99.  Just depends on how fast you go through it.  Whole Foods recently had it on sale for like $1.39 a piece - I bought a bunch.

I get the Blue Diamond - Almond Breeze brand but there are others.

Hi Bobby:  Glad you enjoyed some pool time, but sorry to hear you have a sore

on your arm and in your butt.  I am suffering with knee pain and many other

things.  I had pain in the butt from Sciatica for a few weeks.  CML has been

the least of my troubles Thank God.

I hope we hear from Lottie soon also.  Take Care and hope that sore on your arm

gets better.  Maybe you overdid the sun thing.

The Whole Foods' rice milk is sweetened with rice syrup only, and any rice

milk should be, that's what makes it a good food. Rice syrup is a whole

food and metabolizes slowly.

Nothing has changed about the kombucha. I have brewed it and I know a fair

amount about it. Kombucha has about the same amount of alcohol as fresh

fruit juice. The recall was only because, as a " processed " food, the

kombucha label is required to declare that it has alcohol in it. I just

talked with folks at my local Whole Foods about what exactly happened.

If you did get drunk, you must be extremely sensitive to alcohol.

One other thing-- I'm not the biggest fan of Whole Foods-- but in New

Orleans since Katrina they are the only dedicated organic/natural food

store in the metropolitan area. I have been working on getting a community

food co-op open. If people have locally-owned stores or co-ops in their

area it's really great to support those. However, I will say that WF has

been making a big effort to offer reasonable prices on their house brand

items, which are generally decent quality.

We need to wrap up this conversation as it's completely not on topic

anymore. If you want more info or have questions, please write me offlist.

Does anyone know of a lab in the US that does testing like Dr. Myhill? I sent away for her test, but haven't heard back. Maybe due to the US address or maybe all of the medical board drama she is facing?

Hi Bobby,

I've been going to the chiroprator for 2 weeks. Pinched nerve in my back. I know

your chiro will be able to help you. They're great.  Did you try ice? I know

that helps me.

Hope you get feeling better,

Hi Alberta

I am truly sorry you are experiencing such pain after your TKR. This is just a

thought and possibly a direction for you to consider. I did not have knee pain

after 3 months past my TKR. However I broke my femur 6 months and 4 days after

my TKR and I now have a lot of pain in the inside of my knee. I have only been

on my feet (with a cane) for 1 week after 3 months in a wheel chair. My DR and

PT think the pain is due to weakness in my thigh muscle. I am doing lots of

exercises to strengthen the muscle, however this seems to be one s-l-o-w

process.

Dorie Madsen

I am experiencing the same thing. My TKR was on Oct 28, 2008 and my pain is

also constant. Besides that, there is swelling in the knee and leg. They have

checked for clots, but there is nothing. There is not a day goes by w/o pain,

and I agree the pain from bone on bone was not as bad as this.

I would beg to differ, .

Your negative comment and frustration does not serve the group in helping each

Hi Abdo, i found this lil piece of information on the BRITISH DENTAL HEALTH FOUNDATION website....copy pasting the following few lines from there.....also here is the link to the website as well: http://www.dentalhealth.org.uk/faqs/leafletdetail.php?LeafletID=28#faq256 Should my child use a fluoride toothpaste?Yes. Fluoride has been proven to reduce dental decay by at least 40%, so all children should be encouraged to use a fluoride toothpaste. Fluoride may be in your drinking water, so check with your dentist first. Research has shown that children living in a non-fluoridated area have more dental decay than those living in areas with fluoride in the drinking water. It is important to use only a small pea-sized amount of toothpaste for children, as they are likely to swallow some of it. All children up to three years old, should use a toothpaste with a fluoride level of at least 1000ppm (parts per million). After three years old, they should use a toothpaste that contains 1350ppm-1500ppm. What kind of exercises do you do?

Pain Free a book written by Pete Egoscue, his knee chapter. They are mainly

exercises to get leg muscles into proper alignment. With a pain somehow

the muscles on either side of the pain get out of alignment to compensate.

This is my thoughts not Petes. Book cost about $18 from his website. Some

people on another list said she picks up his book used cheaper. He has clinics

across the pond in Seattle and other places. The exercises is like lie on

your back on the floor with both legs resting on a chair for 5 to 10

minutes. Gravity puts the muscles in place. Then I use a stair step with the

one

leg still on the chair, tighten thigh muscle until I feel it on the top of

the thigh, then relax and hold for 3 minutes. 40 pillow squeezes sitting on

the chair. Sitting on floor with back to a wall with toes pointed toward

you and hold for 5 minutes.

I should have said that I am going to a Re-Hab place instead of a Nursing

Home. Northwoods located in Silverdale, WA. My wife stayed there after her

hip replacement surgery and said it really helped her. They had her doing

exercises that she didn't think she could even do. I think they move Medicare

patients out pretty quick but she was able to come back to their pool for

exercises cost about $40 a month. They had a teacher conduct exercises in

the pool. I know she was in the pool before she was released maybe even

before two weeks. I ordered a wound cover that supposed to allow pool use.

You OS should give you a pamphlet of different exercises. Your PT will also

give you exercises after the surgery. Basically, you want to strengthen all

the muscles in your legs. Simple leg lefts can start you off, both on your back

and on your side. Gradually work up to using 5 pound ankle weights when you do

the lifts. Of course, you can exercise the rest of your body at the same time.

Can't hurt.

All the est, Joan
