Guest guest
thanks for sharing that link. I cannot believe the FDA allows these things on the market. I have been needing to vent lately and this has just topped it off. It is frustrating that when I was looking into getting impants (which was about 5 yrs), I never came across very many negative website. It's not like I woke up one day and decided to go get them. I researched and talked to several PS. Apparently I was not looking in the right place. Now, I will admit that I was looking for more of the recommended surgeons and photo's of cosmetic results. I also looked for personal stories. This lead me to s Website where there seemed to be about all the info anyone could use when considering getting them. I did try to look into getting sick afterwards or related illnesses with implants. Never once did I come across anything that made me feel like they would make me and others sick. It seemed the main concern with implants is a low rate of infection, capsular contractors and a low chance of a few other problems. Nothing ever seemed like a red flag to me. I find myself in a bath full of guilt right now and hope that with time and knowledge this feeling will pass. When I started to notice things going on with me that just did not seem right (about 6 months after implants) I went to "illness after saline breast implants" and the second things was Patty's website. I wonder how I could not have come across it during my long research process. Maybe becaue all I was looking for was postivie things!!!???!!! It was right infront of me and I never noticed it. I guess I just wish (as I am sure many of you do) that there is a way to really get the word out to help protect so many other woman. However, when I thought about getting them, I was not thinking about negative things associated with them. The were suppose to be safe!!!! I have thought alot about Krista and PH's comments recently about why we feel the need and pressure of getting them - divorce, weight gain, men, ect.... I agree so much with what they said and I feel that most of the pressue comes from the media and hollywood. The idea of a average body is one like what you see walking the red carpet. That is anything but average. I think the wrong message is being sent out to everyone, more so to young woman. I think that is one contributing factor to eating disorders, the way we dress and at some times the way people live above and beyond their financial means. There are all kinds of peer pressure and unfortunalety it can start as young as the toddler years. I notice it in my young son when he has play dates. Anyone who has ever seen 2 and 3 yr olds play together can see how one is more of the leader and one the follower and what one does so does the other. Then I think it just becomes a cycle when you start to admire things and people for the wrong reasons - looks and not what is inside and makes someone a "good" person. OK, I am done with my vent - it is just frustrating that as advanced as America and other countries are and there is no "proof" of implants causing illnesses but there are so many people affected by them. Does anyone think it will ever change??? Will they ever achknowledge the risk of implants??? Much Love, Beth (unknown) Ran across these . . . our new ladies will find this very interesting! . . . " Wow Beth, I can so relate to what you said. I researched heavily for a year before getting mine. I also frequented 's website. She seemed to project a sense that the website was " balanced " but it was far from it. I can remember women posting on the forum trying to warn others that the implants were dangerous. The women on the forum would just pounce on them and say how they were crazy. Unfortunately I believed them. I thought there was just a handful of women who had problems and that they were just blaming their own health problems on their implants - and that if the implants did have anything to do w/it, it's b/c they were silicon, not saline. Like you, I wanted to believe they were ok so I know that I gravitated towards all the positive information. I read and read stories of women who were happy with their implants. That's what gave me the courage to go through with it myself. I did read the FDA literature (that was actually available at the time). All I found, too, were risks of infection, cc, etc. I remember printing out pages of information and my husband and I would sit reading through it all, weighing what we thought were " all " the pros and cons. It seemed like a reasonable risk to take. Based on the info that was readily available to me, the benefits seemed to outweigh the risks. I wish I had been more diligent and had had more of an open mind to really hear what " those women " were saying. Little did I know that a few years later I'd be one of them! ) Well, I'd much rather be on this side of the issue than still over there in la-la land! Guest guest
Hi Simon Saliva testing has been used in scientific testing for decades and has been shown to be highly accurate. It is the most reliable way to measure free, bioavailable hormone activity -those hormones actually doing their job at the cell level. Standard blood and urine tests do not measure bioavailable hormone levels. Numerous scientific studies have shown a strong correlation between the levels of steroid hormones in the blood stream and the bio-available levels of steroid hormones in saliva. The World Health Organization has used this method of hormone testing in worldwide comparisons of hormone levels among women living in industrialized vs. non-industrialised countries. In addition, saliva hormone testing more accurately reflects tissue uptake and response of hormones delivered through the skin in creams, gels, or patches than do blood or urine tests. Luv - Sheila ..Thanks, that's sounds like good advice: I'm due to see the dietician on Wednesday, which happens to be in the same block as diabetes & endocrinology, so I shall pay a friendly visit to the endo's secretary whilst I'm there. What's the difference between a salivary and a urine adrenal test, by the way?Simon Support the World Aids Awareness campaign this month with for Good No virus found in this incoming message.Checked by AVG Free Edition. Guest guest
Hi, This is a hoax that's been floating around since 2004. If you want to read more about it just go to snopes.com and put in starbucks under search. Rich (unknown) GUESS I WONT BE DRINKING STARBUCKS ANY MORE!!!!! Recently Marines in Iraq wrote to Starbucks because they wanted to let them know how much they liked their coffees and to request that they send some of it to the troops there. Starbucks replied, telling the Marines thank you for their support of their business, but that Starbucks does not support the war, nor anyone in it, and that they would not send the troops their brand of coffee. So as not to offend Starbucks, maybe we should not support them by buying any of their products! I feel we should get this out in the open. I know this war might not be very popular with some folks, but that doesn't mean we don't support the boys on the ground fighting street -to-street and house-to-house. If you feel the same as I do then pass this along, or you can discard it and no one will never know. Thanks very much for your support. I know you'll all be there again when I deploy once more. Semper Fidelis. Sgt. C. 1st Force Recon Co 1st Plt PLT PLEASE DON'T DELETE THIS . . ALLOW IT TO BE PASSED TO ALL IN MEMORY OF ALL THE TROOPS WHO HAVE DIED SO THAT WE MAY HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE TO SUPPORT THEM OR NOT! ! ! Also, don't forget that when the Twin Trade Towers were hit the fire fighters and rescue workers went to Starbucks because it was close by for water for the survivors and workers and Starbucks charged them! ! ! JUST A NOTE TO THIS; STARBUCKS HAD STORES ON SEVERAL MILITARY BASES IN THE UNITED STATES. THEY ARE NOW BEING REMOVED BECAUSE OF THIS. GO GET 'EM AMERICA . STAND-UP FOR OURSELVES! Tammy R. Guest guest
Not to discourage the once a month but if you can do it more, then do. It takes more than once a month to break into a kid with autism’s world. It took Daddy 3 days of being home solid for to acknowledge him in his world and now he is just barely staying, by the skin of his teeth. He gives a Hershey’s kiss every time goes up to him….. I wish we had all the money in the world so papa could stay home and stay in ’s world. We have a friend who has been with us on a regular basis since was born.. she’s barely in his world too esp. since she’s not been over too much in the last 6 months. But I too encourage anyone living near a neighbor or has a friend with a child w/ autism.. help out. We need the break. Nita, Mom to: 14, Jon 13, 10, 8, 6, Christian (7/16/03 to 8/22/04), 2 and Isaac due Feb. 08 Learn from the mistakes of others. Trust me... you can't live long enough to make them all yourself. PS: AND **especially** if the kid is sick. ’s had a cold for the last 3 weeks and it has been nearly unbearable to have a sick kid with autism.. you might not like mixed remedy solutions but those boiron camilia drops are my lifesaver! Guest guest
Wow! I.m excited to hear that is sharing. If your husband wants to get into 's world a little quicker and easier, I would recommend Alan Greenspan's Floortime. That's what broke the ice for my husband. Three years into it and no sharing yet, unfortunately. My son is a classic case of non-verbal moderate autism. It takes years for the smallest accomplishments when it comes to interactive and social learning...Anita Venita Garner <nitagarner@...> wrote: Not to discourage the once a month but if you can do it more, then do. Guest guest
Jeff, First, KC, thanks for posting this because it keeps us informed with what is being said. Jeff, I'm glad you already responded as I just got home and was trying to figure out how to respond and still keep some semblance of professionalism. You said much better than what I was about to write. A lot of it sounds good, some is actually accurate but it's hard to separate that from the bad, which is very time consuming. Guest guest
Thanks for this! I'm going to print it off and hand it out to some of the kids at school. Now I need to find a simple one for artificial sweeteners. Our school district banned pop in the machine, but allow milk ~ugh~ and water. However the neighboring school district allow ONLY DIET sodas!!! Worse than sugar, IMO. And the school where I work allows everything. I am forced to assist students in selling soda pop, diet soda pop, artifically colored and flavored juices, milks of all flavors. The only two things I would consider is the water and a water with juice added, but they both just sit. And on top of all this soda we also sell chocolate chip cookies, coffee cake, and cookie DOUGH! I don't know how long I can handle this job. I hate killing teenages one bottle at a time. Shari
Guest guest
You are not killing them, they do it to themselves, and will continue to do so probably at a faster rate if you withhold their drug of choice. As long as you are providing a choice you have nothing to feel guilty about. Guest guest
"As long as you are providing a choice you have nothing to feel guilty about." I don't feel we are giving them a choice. If I was giving them a choice I'd be making green smoothies for anyone who wants one or juicing oranges. At least have a juicer at the ready and make samples. They spend a fortune on appliances to keep poison food "fresh" why not appliances to serve REAL food? You do know that the beef & dairy industry supports the schools with cash and materials for "learning". The government seems to think the military needs more money than the children. Guest guest
It would be nice to offer a juice bar. Getting the teenagers to drink it is another matter. Yeah, I know the beef and dairy and other big food industry supports the public schools. My kids would starve if they didn’t. Guest guest
I used to work in school administration and what was served for lunch was based on what commodities the government gave out to the school systems, in addition to the federal school food budget the school received. When a school is getting federal money, and every public school does, you go by their checks and balances and you serve the food the government tells you to serve. There was a district dietitian and her hands were tied, she could not change the menu or what she was allowed to change made very little difference to what was served. In order to make up the shortfall from what money the government gives for the school lunch programs and what it takes to actually feed the kids, the schools bring in outside vendors who work yearly contracts with the school. This is where the pop machines, candy machines, cookies, pizza and more come into it. It isn't the school's fault and it isn't the administration's fault. There would be no lunch program in any public school without federal money, and to get that federal money the schools jump through the hoops presented.
