And it is so much fun to carry on a conversation with someone and then say well

you know I am deaf. I pulled that today while in Verizon and the guy next to me

in line was really taken back and then of course I had to explain the whole

thing.

I have sectoral heterochromia which is having 2 colors

in one eye & having just one color in the other. If u

There are a few reasons why people get hetero, u just

gottta research out which one fits your physical

background!!! I think I inherited my sect/hetero from

my grandpa who had pink eyes during some or most of

his life. He was somewhat of an albino, but I never

met him because he died before I was born. Good luck

Traci,

You will do well. I decided I would not be any

older if I didn't go to school than if I did, so

I just jumped in with both feet and did it.

I had 4 kids, and most of the time 3 were at

home, so it was a challenge, but once you decide

to do something, you can achieve what you

want. I had a 3.97 GPA undergraduate and a 3.79

in my graduate program. I really worked at

it. In the Master's program, I did an internship

for 24 hours a week also. I figure that if I can do it, so can anyone else.

So I wish you great luck and have fun in

school. I enjoyed most of it. I am sure you will really benefit from it.

that I will go on for a Masters due to money and the stress. Kudos

to you, it takes so much discipline. I didn't know how much until I

For me it seems so long ago that I have forgotten how much effort it took.

You have years to think about it. I was older than you with 4 kids

when I did it, so you may think about it later. Right now I think

Beth...

Dr. Aceves did my surgery and I wouldn't change a thing. He's great.

In the US we are seriously uneducated about medical care in Mexico. We tend to believe whatever 20/20 or 60 Minutes has to say. The truth is they pick out the absolute worst examples of medical care and then leave the viewers with the impression that is what all of Mexico is like. That's just not accurate at all. There are places in Mexico that are better than places here.

I live in Phoenix and I could have had surgery from Terry Simpson, MD who is right down the street from me but I did a LOT of research. The fact is that Dr. Aceves has more experience and a much better track record so although it cost a couple of thousand more to go to Dr. Aceves vs. using my insurance in Phoenix, I opted for Dr. Aceves.

There are things to consider when going to Mexico. The doc has to have a flawless reputation, Dr. A has a flawless reputation. They have to be a skilled surgeon, he certainly is a skilled surgeon. Matter of fact, when someone needs surgery and they have complications or comorbidities and the patient is beyond the skill level of other surgeons, they send the patient to Dr. Aceves.

Some docs like Dr. Ortiz... he's good but the thing is, he only does the easy stuff. He doesn't do ANYTHING the least bit complicated like gastric bypass. He won't do it, he sends the patient to Dr. Aceves. If a doc screws up a procedure and doesn't know how to fix it they send the patient to Dr. Aceves.

Some docs skimp on the important things such as pre-op labs. Rodriquez is a good surgeon but he saves money in the wrong places, YOUR care. He skips a chest xray, it's too expensive. You won't get surgery in the US from a good surgeon without a chest xray. He doesn't do a pre-op EKG. He claims they do it in OR. Well that is when you are under anesthesia and they have you on a heart monitor. It's a bit late to be doing an EKG at that point, there is no baseline strip to compare to so they have no idea if your heart has changed due to anesthesia or if that IS your baseline.

Most surgeons in the US do banding as an outpatient procedure. As soon as you wake up they shove you out the door. In Mexico most surgeons keep you in the hospital for one night and then they have you go to a hotel for the 2nd night post-op. Dr. Aceves is the only doc I have ever heard of that keeps his patients for 2 nights in the hospital. We fat folks tend to have more complications than non-fat folks and he prefers we stay for 2 nights. While other doctors pocket the money they save in short cuts, Dr. Aceves doesn't. It's cheaper to send patients to a hotel on night #2, much cheaper than keeping them for the extra night. Dr. Aceves doesn't go the cheap route and he isn't anymore expensive than the other docs. The going rate is around $8K give or take $500.

There is a REALLY bad place, Betancourt. I believe Dr. currently works for Betancourt and those patients come home with horrible infections and sometimes lose their bands. But just like Mexico, we have our horrible docs in the US as well.

These were issues that mattered a great deal to me when I was looking for a doc, that is why I chose Dr. Aceves.

The hospital is absolutely beautiful, they have an ICU, OR, ER, the works. It's a regular hospital instead of something like what Dr. Ortiz has. Ortiz rents the 2nd story of a medical office building and turned it into a clinic with ORs, recovery room, and a few patient rooms. Would you rather have surgery in a clinic or a hospital? Many Mexican docs operate out of clinics, Dr. Aceves will only use a hospital.

My suggestion to you is to get a list of all the possible docs you are considering. Immediately cross off the cheapest doc as well as the most expensive doc. Then start looking at what YOU require as a patient. Remember, you are the consumer here and you get to pick and choose what standards you require. For me it was:

Experience: While banding is an easy procedure there is still a learning curve and a doc needs to be experienced to do it well. They should have at least 500 bands they have done.

Location: Some cities are safer than others. I wouldn't want to go to Tijuana, I prefer a safer city such as Mexicali where Dr. Aceves is.

Hospital vs. Clinic: You are having surgery, complications can happen to ANY of us regardless of surgeon skill. Do you want to be in a clinic or hospital if you have complications?

Is the doc capable of doing various procedures including the tricky ones such as someone who had gastric bypass but they now want a band. Not all docs can do that procedure, it's hard to do. Dr. A can do them.

Pre-op labs, they should require AT LEAST (blood tests) a CBC and Chem Panel. They should also require a chest xray and EKG as well as a urine test.

How long will they monitor you after surgery? A few hours? A day? Two days?

Just some things to think about.

BTW, I had surgery in December, I've lost 60 lbs and I have 40 to go. I prefer to go back to Dr. Aceves for fills and I can easily do that since I live in Arizona.

He won't do it, he sends the patient to Dr. Aceves. If a doc screws up a procedure and doesn't know how to fix it they send the patient to Dr. Aceves. Some docs skimp on the important things such as pre-op labs. Rodriquez is a good surgeon but he saves money in the wrong places, YOUR care. He skips a chest xray, it's too expensive. You won't get surgery in the US from a good surgeon without a chest xray. He doesn't do a pre-op EKG. He claims they do it in OR. Well that is when

you are under anesthesia and they have you on a heart monitor. It's a bit late to be doing an EKG at that point, there is no baseline strip to compare to so they have no idea if your heart has changed due to anesthesia or if that IS your baseline. Most surgeons in the US do banding as an outpatient procedure. As soon as you wake up they shove you out the door. In Mexico most surgeons keep you in the hospital for one night and then they have you go to a hotel for the 2nd night post-op. Dr. Aceves is the only doc I have ever heard of that keeps his patients for 2 nights in the hospital. We fat folks tend to have more complications than non-fat folks and he prefers we stay for 2 nights. While other doctors pocket the money they save in short cuts, Dr. Aceves doesn't. It's cheaper to send patients to a

hotel on night #2, much cheaper than keeping them for the extra night. Dr. Aceves doesn't go the cheap route and he isn't anymore expensive than the other docs. The going rate is around $8K give or take $500. There is a REALLY bad place, Betancourt. I believe Dr. currently works for Betancourt and those patients come home with horrible infections and sometimes lose their bands. But just like Mexico, we have our horrible docs in the US as well. These were issues that mattered a great deal to me when I was looking for a doc, that is why I chose Dr. Aceves. The hospital is absolutely beautiful, they have an ICU, OR, ER, the works. It's a regular hospital instead of something like what Dr. Ortiz

has. Ortiz rents the 2nd story of a medical office building and turned it into a clinic with ORs, recovery room, and a few patient rooms. Would you rather have surgery in a clinic or a hospital? Many Mexican docs operate out of clinics, Dr. Aceves will only use a hospital. My suggestion to you is to get a list of all the possible docs you are considering. Immediately cross off the cheapest doc as well as the most expensive doc. Then start looking at what YOU require as a patient. Remember, you are the consumer here and you get to pick and choose what standards you require. For me it was: Experience: While banding is an easy procedure there is still a learning curve and a doc needs to be experienced to do it well. They should have at least 500 bands they have

done. Location: Some cities are safer than others. I wouldn't want to go to Tijuana, I prefer a safer city such as Mexicali where Dr. Aceves is. Hospital vs. Clinic: You are having surgery, complications can happen to ANY of us regardless of surgeon skill. Do you want to be in a clinic or hospital if you have complications? Is the doc capable of doing various procedures including the tricky ones such as someone who had gastric bypass but they now want a band. Not all docs can do that procedure, it's hard to do. Dr. A can do them. Pre-op labs, they should require AT LEAST (blood tests) a CBC and Chem Panel. They should also require a chest xray

and EKG as well as a urine test. How long will they monitor you after surgery? A few hours? A day? Two days? Just some things to think about. If you want to unsubscribe altogether, simply scroll down to the bottom of

Another option for email lists is to create an email address just for these

lists. Some isp providers allow multiple emails.

Or go to and create one just for these lists. It keeps my personal

email program free for friends and families. I also

have a separate one for receipts, and one specifially for those sites that

want a legitimate email address, but you don't

want to get their spam etc. Keeps things separate.

Actually I find Gmail to be much more useful for emal lists because it sorts

posts by thread automatically. I can send anyone who wants one an

invitation to Gmail...just email me and let me know.

I want to know if women are going to take injections during their period as well. I must say I get my HCG today and will start tomorrow but m period in only 9 days away so I might have to take it for the first day or so of my period. There seems to be no information on why you should not take it during your period. I just had my period and injected all through it. You may cramp or

bleed a wee bit more, but that is really the only answer I have had

from anyone as to why we should not. I lost 3lbs during this period. I

will continue to unless research can explain other wise.
