Maritza,

I'm so sorry you are feeling poorly. As the other ladies here have said, I believe you will get better by having your implants removed as soon as you are able.Your symptoms are not unusual-- I had them, as did many of the ladies here. Let us know how we can best help you in this journey back to your health. All of us here have been though the same troubles you are now experiencing, and we can help you through it. Don't worry.You won't be alone with this.

I would be worthwhile to find out. The achy feeling some people have is

EBV. You can't cure it but you can reduce your viral load.

Most plastic surgeons do not remove implants properly, so be aware of this.

Ask him if he will take out the implants and the

entire scar tissue that formed around them. If

he says he can't or won't or that it could

puncture your lung, go to someone who will do it

properly. We have a list of doctors on this

site. As I said, I think probably 98% of doctors do not remove these properly.

Welcome, I am sorry it is under these circumstances, I had saline

implants for 20 years, I got sick after the first ten yers, I went to

50 different doctors and hospitals nobody ever asked about the

implants, even though I had put it on all of records as a surgery, I

figured it out myself after hearing a news story on saline, I was

told not to worry it was only silicone, well after explant last year

the pathologist report was psoitive for silicone on the breast tissue

and capsule, I was poisioned as far as I am concerned, no warnign

about them expiring and even out and out lies about what they were.

The outer shell is silicone on all implants, also make sure that they

don't try to tell you you don't have scar tissue because you haven't

had them that long, sometimes the PS will say that, you will not be

deformed, that was a nother I was told, you will looke the same as

you did before your implants, stay strong girl we are all here for

you.

Mar....the back of my lower head hurt so bad I thought I was going to die.My knees,feet and hand and fingers hurt. My neck kills me...now after explant 1 week ago today YEAH !!! has never done a fill so I made the decision to go back to Mexico. But his

I'm assuming that the nursing home doesn't offer insurance. If not, have you

seen if you are eligible for Medicaid or something. Those tests cost sooo much

money.

I think that 12 hr. shifts are very hard but found nights to be the easier

shift. You don't have all the visitors, admissions, & discharges. And you get

more days off but, you're right, sleeping is a challenge.

know that it is very different than working days, and is more wearing

on the body and mind. Sleep is always interrupted and no one in the

family realizes that day time is our night time. Hope you are

I work in an Assisted Living Home and they do offer insurance, but I

do not get it because I do not work 35 or more hours a week. They

don't offer insurance for anything less than that. I do not qualify

for Medicaid, so that leaves me on my own. Even if I did work 35

hours or more a week I could not use the insurance on this because it

would be considered pre-existing... I looked it up in our employee

handbook, and talked to my boss about it. I'm pretty much screwed

when it comes to that.

Yes, night shift is the 'easier shift' as far as the work load,

although working in a small building as I do our work load is not the

same as working in a nursing home. Night shift has all the

paperwork, filing, cleaning, laundry, and all that fun stuff to do..

along with resident care. It is quite different than working in a

nursing home or hospital. I don't do all 12 hour shifts, although

I'd like to.

I understand OT - occupational therapy is more life skills -

dressing, writing, skills needed to work or do a job, etc. whereas PT

or physical therapy is more working on walking and running and

getting around and playing, ----when Evan could walk good we were

graduated out of PT --OT and PT do overlap some.

So far I like this method BEST but it is much moer time consuming and it is

space taking! And it is going backwards in time. I am waiting for the electronid

'day' of this version! Pt has a kiosk to type in the code ro name what everthat

only she he has. Inthe 'other side at the register it will not isue change,

recept ro take money unless the person has entered the PHI or code.

My son will have an operation for cholesteatoma about one month for

now. I have two questions.

1. I live in Japan and hospital stays are always much longer than in

America. There are reasons for this, but it'd be off topic to

explain. I wanted to ask, how much care does a child require after an

operation? Is it hard to do? I'm considering asking the doctor to let

my son come home early, but wondering if this is a good idea or not.

The hospital seems germy to me, and I think my son would heal better

at home.

2. My son is nearly 5. The doctor is *guessing* that my son was born

with the c-toma, but said he can't be sure till he does the operation

and sees behind the ear drum. He thinks my son has a very good chance

of getting rid of the c-toma completely after one operation. (Though,

of course, he said we should monitor his ear for the long term.) Are

chances for non-occurrence good when the c-toma is caught early on?

Say in young children?

My daughter had her cholesteatoma removed

at 5 years old.  Our doctor also believes it was congenital.  It was about 2-2½

cm in size, but had many “fingers” so it was complicated to

remove.  The ear drum and all 3 ear bones were destroyed.  The surgeon rebuilt

the ear drum using a skin graft.  Surgery was at 7am on a Thursday, it lasted

about 3 hours, and we were home by 2pm.  She was back at school on Monday.  (She

was ready to play with friends 2 days after the surgery.)  She and I would have

both gone crazy if we had to stay over at the hospital!

A  “pearl” about 3-4 mm in size

was visually discovered 2 years later on her ear drum, so they removed it

through the ear canal (the first surgery was done by making an incision behind

the ear.)   The surgery started at 7am, lasted 4 hours, and we left for home by

2 or 3pm.  After a weekend of rest, she was good to go. 

A recent CT scan revealed one other small remnant

of cholesteatoma that was still left behind.  Surgery #3 just occurred last

Thursday…my daughter is now 9 years old.  The surgeon made an incision

behind her ear, removed the cholesteatoma (about 5mm) and looked for any other

remnants that might be hiding.  None were found.  He then proceeded to rebuild

her ear canal, repair her fixed stapes footplate, and then insert a prosthetic

ossicular chain.  We are very hopeful that she will gain most of her hearing

back.  (She only had about 30%.)

We drove about 8 hours to Los Angeles.  The House Ear Institute attracts

many of the top ear doctors and I am determined to make this the last surgery. 

We had an excellent surgeon named Derald Brackmann.  Surgery was Thursday at 1pm

and we were back in our room at the “guest house” next to the

hospital at 10pm.  We drove home the next day and she was ready to play with

her friends that afternoon.  She mainly rested for the weekend and went back to

school on Monday.

Even with the incision and stitches behind

the ear, the surgery overall seems very non-invasive…at least for

children.  My daughter has bounced back in no time.  The ear heals quickly,

there is little to no dizziness, and very little pain.  The doctor has

prescribed Tylenol with codeine for pain, but she has never taken it.  She

takes Motrin for a few days and that is it.  The only unpleasantness for my

daughter is being nauseous from the anesthetic and spitting up several times for

a few hours after surgery.  After that passes, she is in good spirits.

The key is having regular check ups and a

knowledgeable specialist.  Our local doctors did a fine job, but once we got

referrals to more specialized doctors and surgeons, it made a huge difference. 

The technology and knowledge is top notch.  Do lots of research and ask lots of

questions.  Also, request copies of all medical reports so you can have the

information for future reference.  Good luck to you and your son.

The chances of another c-toma are always going to be there if your child has an ongoing chronic middle ear problem. It does not matter as to WHEN the c-toma developed, just get it out. Make him explain the surgery in detail to you. Behind the external ear is the mastoid bone. Why the doc would want to look there for the c-toma is weird. It is in the middle ear surrounding the auditory bones or auditory ossicles. Going home would help your child heal. Hospitals suck when you are an adult. Poor kid will be miserable having to stay there, but if your son has any pain associated with the surgery, staying there to have his pain managed would be a good thing.

There is no reason that the c-toma shouldn't be able to be gotten totally in one surgery. IN THEORY, a c-toma is a benign tumor, but each c-toma is a one time surgery. He may have to have surgery again, but that would be a different c-toma.
