Guest guest
Hi Betsy, is there a Family Resource where you live? What state are you in? Can you get respite? Maybe I just jumped in this (e-mail) in the middle and this was discussed. While the kids are in school can you get to a gym (for you mom). sending you a hug. betsy justme <strung_out_hair_goo@...> wrote: OK, I SERIOUSLY NEED SOME HELP. Guest guest
Betsy, How old is your oldest son? If you can get respite care through a local community agency, then go for it. We didn't have any luck with that. (We live in California, and were told that our son needed to have a primary diagnosis of autism, not Asperger's Syndrome to get services from the Regional Center.) What we did do was find our son a mentor when he was about 11 or 12. This was a man in his early thirties who had two children of his own, and had a wonderful way with kids. He used to be a psych tech in the navy and had worked with our son's former psychiatrist when they both were in the navy. He came over twice a week and did floor time with . Sometimes he brought his two boys and the three of them went swimming in our pool. You need to get help. That needs to go to the top of your list, even if it means dragging all five kids to the therapist with you. That's how you're gonna survive this. S/he is going to give you tricks to survive this mess. In the meantime, write to us and vent, and pick up tips and information. That's what we're here for. Guest guest
Betsy, I always hate when someone says “you need to take time for yourself”… No kidding, but there were never enough hours in the day to do that. I am a single mother of 2, 17 and 12 yr old boys. My 12 yr old is Aspie… and currently in an RTF, because I could no longer deal. Trust me when I say…. Find the time where ever, however you can… I ended up being so sick that I lost my job and I was no good to my boys or myself. Even if you lock the bathroom door and sit for 20 minutes and read a book… you need to re-charge yourself. This site has been a blessing for me… there is wonderful ideas, and help… and everyone lets you vent! I spend time just reading… and to know that there are others out there dealing with the same issues that I have … makes me feel better! You are not alone out there! Guest guest
I agree with some of the others. It is hard enough to get through the day at times when you are not on your own! I would look into some form of respite. I am not familiar with U.S services but here in Australia there are companies that help organise respite for carers of children with special needs. Guest guest
Hi! I feel for your situation - it sounds hard! A church near me has " sitting nights " where they'll watch your kid with an ASD for free, once every two months or so. Also, my church has been very good about helping me with Max (PDD). Anything I ask for. Can a local church help you? If you call around, you might find one that has resources to help you. Hope it helps. Guest guest
Hi! Me, again! Just a few comments... " I would try to find resources in your community... call the local health department... " I agree. I think local resources include churches/ temples. Even if you're not " religious " . I originally said " churches " and not temples only because in my personal experience, people in churches have been easier to talk to and help out with kids on the spectrum. - A > __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Hi. The figures you give look like they come from a hearing chart measured in decibels. If so, 20db would equal normal to slight loss and 70db would be severe. So I take it that you have one reasonably good ear and one duff one. Evenso if the prosthesis manages to give you good stereo hearing then you will notice a big difference. You may suddenly start to hear different sounds going at the same time and all sorts of little clicks and bangs and tinkles that you never suspected were there. Everything seems to make a noise and you wonder how people cope with it but it's only because we become so comfortable with deafness that everyhting is a little startling to begin with. I went from profound/severe loss to moderate and I found the new level noise both exhilarating and bit nerve-wracking, but you soon get used to it. Reconstruction is well worth it because you then start to appreciate how much of the world of sound you've been missing. Phil My Ctoma was "discovered" about 2 months ago and I am scheduled for surgery on June 21st. I have always had trouble with my ears... it's the story of my life and I guess I am just used to it. I had tubes twice as a young child and have always had poor hearing and occasionally over the years had the "smelly" gunk in my ear. Well, here is my question.... I now know after a hearing test that I am running about 20% hearing loss in my right ear and 70% loss in my left ear (the one with the Ctoma).... my surgeon is going to remove the tumor and put in the titanium prosthesis. I am wondering... for those of you who have had the prosthesis put in, did you notice a big improvement in hearing? I am wondering if the "loudness" is going to be bothersome b/c my hearing does not seem "bad" to me.... its been this way for so long that I don't know anything different? and I am only running about 50% between the two. Guest guest
O.K. This is just from personal experience and isn't right in every situation. And I'm totally against medicating children unless it actually is needed. It sounds like she would benefit from homeschooling ,but, if thats not an option like it's not for me,you may want to talk to the doc about an anti-anxiety med and something like concerta for adhd.I kept my son off meds until last year when he had to go on them for his and others safety. He was banging his head and punching himself in the face to the point of leaving bruises and was swinging his chair over his head in the classroom. He has not hurt himself or done anything like that since his doc medicated him.She put him on 10mg Paxil ,which is the lowest dose, and 27mg of Concerta. He's been fine since.I'm not saying this is what you should do but just sharing.Hope this helps.Jen <diegowench@...> wrote: Ok, I* want to throw some things around so I know whether or not to worry. Guest guest
Judy- Have you done a hair analysis to assess her toxic metals and mineral transport? I'd be curious to see what her silver as well as her mercury levels are and if her mineral transport pattern is normal. I couldn't find any info on silver affecting AI dz in my resources but silver toxicity can appear with a lot of emotional symptoms, which could be contributing to her picture. High levels of silver (ie, acute toxicity) can affect kidney function, so I'm wondering if a lower but longer exposure could over time also affect the kidneys. Mercury is a big cause of AI conditions, and may be something you'll need to focus on- it would at least be worth knowing what her levels are since she's had fillings. Dr. Hall Cutler has 2 books out that are chock full of info and really good resources- one on hair test interpretation and one specifically on mercury and amalgams. I go back to both of them often and have called Dr. Cutler with some questions and he's been really helpful.
