All the doctors who wrote books were attacked. As well as the

doctors who came and presented at our conferences. Dr. Blais always

flew stand-by because of the threats made against some of the doctors.

Thanks, Lea. Washington was fast, but interesting. Hope it does some

good. I was exhausted when I got home.

I just want to say again, that though Dr. Vasey may support that

women get ill from implants, as far as I am aware he doesn't have

much to offer in a way of a cure. Most traditionally trained

rheumatologists have one bag of tricks...immune suppressing drugs.

That's it. And painkillers of various kinds. HOwever, there are

some rheumatologists that consider some alternative methods of

healing and who also use the antibiotic protocol which in my

opinion should always be used first. Anyone wanting to know how

most people fare on standard rheumy drugs should go to the roadback

site. Or any of the other sites talking about rheumatic diseases.

If you want to try and control your pain but not actually alter or

stop your disease process, then go to a rheumatologist. I, for one,

have been very disappointed in them and I have been to at least

two. The only kind I would go to now are the ones who use

antibiotic therapy--it doesn't destroy your immune system and it

makes sense. It is based on the observation of Dr. Brown that apes

sick with arthritis were found to have mycoplasma in their joint

fluid. When treated with antibiotics, their arthritis eventually

resolved. He developed the antibiotic protocol to treat his

arthritic patients with good success. It has evolved into treating

all kinds of immune disease and they say their success rate is

somewhere between 67-85% of the people who use it. Suppressing the

immune system doesn't deal with what is causing the problem in the

first place and can have serious consequences down the road. Just

my opinion from talking to many people who used standard rheumy

treatment before trying something more aimed at stopping the cause

of

immune malfunction.

Hi Sara --

Wouldn't it be nice if they actually followed their committee's

it seems most people with 2 different colored eyes have one blue and one brown..is it unusual to have one blue and one green?? because thats what I have....but the green eye has a tint of brown around the pupil and changes depending on my mood and what I wear.

Hello,

I can totally understand the major depression with back problems. I am having a

stimulator implanted on Monday. I am only 39 years old. I have had two

previous back surgeries. I have failed back syndrome with nerve damaged caused

by the first one and this was my last resort to having any amount of relief. I

did the trial it did improve enough for me to have it implanted.

All you can do is do your research and be there to support him. Go on the

following websites and they can help provide great information.

- You will hear lots of horror stories, and most of them are true,

however their are also allot of good stories out there. Some people go

through treatment without one side affect or only feel crappy for the first

day of the shot. Allot of people are still able to work all the way through

treatment with no problems.

I on the other hand don't have a good story to tell as to my side affects -

but I will tell you that I beat the hep, and even though my sides were pure

hell - it was so worth it to have rid the nasty hep from my body and to feel

normal again.

While I was on treatment I would have told you that I would never do the

treatment again, as I was so bad. But after I was through and a few months

had gone by being clear - I had actually forgotten what it felt like to feel

normal and how amazing it was, and how I could do all the things that I had

missed out on because of the hep.

Yes - I would do it again if needed. And I think you will find more like me

than not.

I feel we owe it to ourselves to give our body a fighting chance, to feel

human again, and rid the nasty dragon.

Do you know what geno type you are and have you had a liver biopsy yet. You

may only have to stay on the treatment 6 months if you are a certain geno

type.

Keep your chin up girl, and this is very much a personal decision, and of

course the Doctor can help you with that also.

Keep in touch - there are allot of wonderful people out here in these

lisa thank you for the feedback-i had a liver biopsy two years ago- i was then a

stage one-i was going to a clinic and i felt like a guinea pig-i think i was

genotype one-but i remember the dr saying my liver was ok at that time-i think

the geno type i am is the one that takes longer on medication-then i made the

decision to stop going to clinic because i was scared of the side effects of the

medication-lately i feel very tired.and sometimes i feel like i have a fever-and

now i am scared-back then i had no side effects i went to be tested because so

many of the people i use to hang with had it --so i new i had to have it to---i

have a dr.s appointment on the 7th of march then i will ask for the refferal to

a dr here in las vegas--my mother is also worried because i have three sons, and

she had a friend pass away in the 90's from it-he didnot know he had it until it

was too late--any ways thank you for your words-i guess the herbal meds out

there aren't worth it---i will let you know

how everything goes thanks again

peace

- you are most welcome for any support that I can give or anything I

can do to help. That is what these groups are for.

Going through treatment is a major decision, and is by no means an easy one

for some to make. If you felt fine 2 years ago, and you were only in stage

1, unless you are a sever drug addict or severe alcoholic - it usually takes

years for the disease to progress into the later stages.

I really don't know why we get the symptoms when we do, and all of us

heppers are so individual, I don't know if even the Doctors have the correct

answer for this question for sure. I had only had my hep-c for about a year

and half, when I started having symptoms, and like you I was in stage 1. So

I don't think just because we are having those symptoms means that we are in

a worse stage.

I know that the Doctors themselves have so much more to learn about this

disease, before 1991, it was still known as non-A and non-B hepatitis.

I think if you are really concerned about the sides and if your liver damage

has changed - if you have good insurance, I would just ask the Doctor to do

a liver biopsy. And if you do decide to do treatment, you will have a

biopsy anyway.

I wished there was some miracle advice I could give as to the treatment, you

know they say that in the next couple of years we should have a new and

better form of treatment with allot less sides - maybe if you liver is still

stage 1, you might think about holding out until the new drugs come out.

The Doctor, and I assume he is either a gastro or hepatoligist - he would be

the best to advise on waiting, and give you the most accurate pros and cons.

However, I always have felt and I think that I speak for allot of us heppers

- the best thing you can do for yourself is to be your own advocate and make

yourself as knowledgeable as possible.

Ya know , another way to look at the treatment is - you could always

try it for a few weeks and if the sides are bad for you or unbearable - you

can always QUIT. You could have little to know sides and breeze right

through it, either way you have nothing to loose by just simply trying it??

Keep talking to people in the groups, like I said they are so knowledgeable

and some have been dealing with this disease for 30 years or more.

Okay - Well Girl, keep your chin up and keep us posted. And remember we are

all here for you.

Love, hugs and prayers

Marie

May God bless and keep you and yours

Welcome Laurie,

Implants cause a host of problems . . . It sounds like

your problems are just getting started.

Please read through the archives . . . And, if you can

get your hubby to do so too, that's great.

A lot of husbands have problems with explanting . . .

IMHO, it's because it's something they can't control .

... and the idea of the expense without being sure of

the outcome adds to the burden.

You need to take care of yourself, even if your hubby

doesn't cooperate . . . So often, by the time women

get really sick, their husbands take off anyway.

It's possible your insurance will cover it. . .

If you're from Durango, CO, you're lucky to have a

doctor in your state . .. Dr. Huang in Denver. . .

Please let us know if you have any questions . . .

we're here to help.

Hugs and prayers,

Yes, hair loss is just the beginning, and it could be much worse, as

many have more serious problems to begin.

Check Dr. Huang: www.lindahuangmd.com

In Colorado, she is the only person we refer women to, as she removes

implants properly, is reasonable (I would never let the doctor who

put them in take them out), and she will leave you looking good after

removal. Be very careful in choosing a doctor for removing implants

as most do not do it properly.

Hello Marie,

In 1987 I had a complete physical and my liver functions were normal. In

1988 I had some medical tests when I attempted to purchase a large insurance

policy. I was declined insurance due to abnormal liver functions. About

three months later I began having medical problems that led to my being

terminated from my employment. I started seeing Dr. Gish in S.F in 1989 and

was tested for nonAB. However, three tests determined that I did not have

nonAB. In 1991 a test for HCV came out, I was tested, and found to have

HCV.

Eventually most of my medical problems that started in 1988 were traced back

to the HCV. Before my first treatment I had a biopsy and there was no

damage to my liver. Now I am in stage 4/3 and there is talk of a

transplant. I have been through four clinical trials, the first in 1993,

and one treatment program that was not a clinical trial. My insurance will

not pay treatment because I have been treated with everything that has been

approved. However, my doctor wants to put me on a maintenance program, and

written prescriptions three times that the insurance has denied.

What I have observed through the years is that for the most part those that

catch HCV early and depending on the genotype are the most likely to have

success with treatment. Those that are in denial for a long period of time,

do not take care of themselves health wise, or wait by trying other options

do not have as much success with traditional treatment. Although I have not

seen any medical articles that would support my observations. This is more

antidotal than anything but when I have discussed it with my doctor he seems

to have the same opinion.

The thing that really burns me is that there are no federal or other funding

sources for HCV research. Most of what is being discovered is a by product

of HIV research and that disease has the political clout. However, more

people are likely to die from HCV than ever will die in this country from

HIV. The drug companies are really in the business to make money not to

find a cure, and there is still no cure. The insurance companies are also

in business for money and would rather see patients die than pay for costly

treatment. Those are my opinions of course, and others are welcome to

theirs, either way it is frustrating.

During the past year I have posted at this site several times with no

answers or comments. It is good to see that the site is back to talking

about HCV and not the continuous efforts to make the site a swingers place.

I have seen a number of sites come and go over the past few years with some

going by the way due to disagreements about what is posted. I have been

able to glean a few tidbits from this site from time to time but most of

what I find out about HCV is by researching the medical journals. Please

let me know if I can answer any questions about my experiences with HCV.

Thanks,

Ken

stage 1, you might think about holding out until the new drugs come out.

Ken and Carol,

I want to thank-you for your letter - I don't think you could have

realized it but it couldn't have come at a more appropriate time.

After being clear almost , well would have been 2 years in May of this year,

I just found out that my hep is out of remission and has come back with

vengeance.

I won't go into to great detail at this time, but I tested a little over 6

months ago and was still clear, start having similar symptoms as having it

before and went in for test and low and behold it is back. They don't know

why, other than I have totally physically and emotionally stressed out my

body these last 8 months or so. Same geno - 1b only my viral load is 6

million, last time it was only 986,000. I just found out Friday afternoon

and is still sinking in. I have so much else going on in my life, as I am

sure we all do, but just having a hard time with accepting it.

So I just wanted to say thanks for your input - it is much appreciated.

May God Bless

Love, hugs and Prayer to you both

hi lisa,

sorry to hear you are not feeling well again, i hope everything is ok with

you, i had spoken to my mom about you already, hope you don't mind, you first

letter gave us some hope with medication,,i will keep you in my prayers, i agree

with ken and carol about the fact the pharmacutical companies are in the

business of making money, sometimes i feel we are just guinea pigs for these

gigantic companies, how do you run a company like that and have no feelings for

the people--anyways that is politics and this is about all of us getting

better,, please keep my updated and just like you were here for me i am here for

you---even though i am new to this group-even if you just want to scream on

someone--try to be positive--i have always felt in my heart if you keep

posititve vibes around posititve things develop--

you mentioned using drugs--i was clean for a long time-clean of everything

then started using again-thats when i got the hep--back in 2001-i hate myself

sometimes for slipping up--then after i clean up and found out about the hep and

had the biopsy i started using again--stupid the things i put myself

through--been clean a year now--i try and stay positive--anyways thanks for

being here and remember i am here for you too--

" I guess I was wondering if anyone thinks we should contact anyone else for

another opinion, or do we stick with Dr. Bleesing on this? "

-

This is a hard one because I know you trust Dr. B. I do know of one parent

whose child's peds immuno misdiagnosed the mother. Of course, that is just one

person but it might be useful to get some adult immuno recommendations from the

IDF or other parents for the long-run. Also, some people do really well with

broad spectrum prophylactic antibiotics but others do not (e.g., develop

secondary fungal infections, gut problems, resistance...). Docs have different

opinions on this issue. I know that I have posted the following article on CVID

way too many times, but I just think it is so to the point. So sorry you are

have to make these decisions all at once.

http://www.emedicine.com/derm/topic870.htm

" Antimicrobial therapy should be initiated at the first sign of infection. A

narrow spectrum of drugs should be used when culture and sensitivity results are

available. The prophylactic use of antibiotics should be avoided because of an

increased risk of infection with fungi or other resistant organisms. "

I've been so busy....SORRY about the diagnosis...

I guess you probably know my opinion here...

We don't have a definitive on , his diagnosis is NK cell defect,

selective antibody deficiency, mild hypogam with subclass deficiency..

Why don't you call nufactor www.nufactor.com.....Ask for Shirley and give her

my name.....she will take some info and then maybe the nurse who works with

them....could talk with you....

TO me it becomes a quality of life issue...We have seen so much improvement in

jacob's life since starting SCIG>....there is no comparison...and it has

improved our whole family's life....

Second opinions or third never hurt....

I think the Dr. B is " slow on the IVIG start " but that is my opinion....

When I last spoke to our heme in MPLS....he made the comment that they could

learn from and how much he has responded to the SCIG....and how it has

improved the quality of life....

I am working this weekend.....12 hour shifts...

I'll try to catch up here a little tonight....If you want...email me

privately...I have over 600 messages...so am basically deleting...

Hang in there.

You bet. I will be talking to the referal lady today...will let you know how

that goes. Still trying to communicate with her...I think she is LD or

something. She asks me questions that should be right there in Jarrod's file!

It is very frusterating. What about you? What is going on with you? Is work

okay? Haven't seen you in a while, I am so ready for summer. It is reading

week and we are very busy at school. I come home exhausted and just got over

the latest bout of bronchitis and viral cold. Nasty bug.

Love you,

Willow

Hi, Work is fine, last week I was very busy. Went to a workshop in Reno on

Friday night, Saturday. Sunday visited my mom..... also watched DVDs and knit.

Still going to LA at Spring Break. My cousin and her husband will be

there to. So we are visiting a total of 8 people....2 of them little ones.

So glad to not be teaching. I was sick a lot. Those germs in the school

are powerful, and you are always in a state of exhaustion.

I want Spring a lot. Decorated today for it. Love you,
