I think that everyone varies so drastically in how they

respond to things, that some women may get sick

immediately, while others can get sick 10+ yrs later. I

have had contact with a woman in CA who got sick from

her implants 11 yrs after she had them in. I really

just think that the human body responds differently.

And while some women may be predisposed to certain

autoimmune diseases, and they may get sicker quicker, I

truly feel that there are women who may be predisposed

to autoimmune diseases who don't get sick, and vice

versa. Sometimes healthy women get sicker with things

faster because their body is just not used to fighting

off a foreign body. Others who aren't so healthy may

not get sick for a while because their body is used to

fighting infection and other things, so in a way, it's

stronger and tougher. I have seen this in many pts who

have had hip, knee, and calcaneous replacements. There

just really is no rhyme or reason.

I was perfectly healthy before my implants. I was

athletic, ran in 10k races all the time, and yet was

sick 6-8 months after my implants. There is absolutely

no history of autoimmune diseases or neurological

disorders in my family.

The other thing to consider is that saline implants have

to be replaced every 8-10 yrs because they have a higher

potential for rupture. So, women who don't know this (I

didn't when I had mine put in and actually just found

this out last fall) may eventually have a weakening or

rupture and that junk will begin to leak into their

bodies and then they may start to get sick, even though

it may be 10+ yrs since they were implanted.

Implants are not safe no matter how you look at it.

Anything foreign put into the body is just not natural,

and that is why I had my sternal wired removed and will

eventually have the hardware in my neck removed. I see

hips and knees all the time that become infected for no

other reason than the body has fought that foreign body

and is rejecting it. Even though some surgeries can't

be done without putting in hardware and whatnot, it

doesn't mean that it is natural and that the body isn't

going to reject it and cause massive problems.

No, implants are not safe, never have been, and never

will be.

Just my opinion here , as you asked for responses:

I don't believe that it is so clear cut regarding the chances of getting

ill from implants if you haven't gotten sick by a certain time. There are

too many unknowns where the immune system is concerned, and who is to say

that 10 years down the road, someone may or may not have an allergic

reaction to something they have been exposed to, including implants, or scar

tissue for that matter?

The immune system can take so many hits, but at some point in time, it gets

worn down and overworked. One reputable naturopath (quoted in the

Alternative Medicine magazines article entitled " Poisoned Breasts " ) told me

implants were " the straw that broke the camels back " . Others suggested that

the " bucket has overflowed " , meaning the immune system finally got to a

point where it could not handle the toxic overload anymore. Throughout our

lives, we are being constantly exposed to immune assault, but breast

implants, are a long term, continual problem for our immune system. There

are just too many areas of concern: bacteria, fungus, chemicals, heavy

metals, etc, etc.

I just don't trust the idea of a long term safe breast implant, and do

believe that illness can develop at any time. I have met and talked with

women who got sick after 20 years.
