Yes, I wear narrow. ANd yes, I meant New Balance. It was not the size. It was

the fact that these shoes were hard and not very flexible. You see, my toes are

more turned in now from the PA, and my feet are very raw, sensitive and peeling

and leathery from the Soriatane. THey do not swell as much as in the past, but

they become more sensitive to the touch and extreme pain when I am in a flare.

Will have to look up Rockport, but I like the Keds. And they are cheap. $30 a

pair or less if on sale.

, I was just at the New Balance outlet in Lawrence MA on Sat, and

they indeed make multiple width sizes for women as well. At the outlet we

pick up last year's model's for a fraction of the original price , We also

get seconds that sure look like firsts to us. The men's shoes I was

looking at for my husband also came in 4 E widths. We walked out with 5

pair of sneakers for $199. Mo

What I do is go into stores that sell this brand and try some on. After

awhile, I learned how they fit me, and I can tell from the style which fit.

There are several national chains that sell Dr. Martens, Journeys being one

of them. Also, even though it is a hassle, most internet companies will

take returns or exchanges-otherwise I wouldn't do business with them. D

Janet, I like Easy Spirits and s, sometimes I add Dr. Scholl's gellin

insole, too. I wouldn't like the Docs as well because most of them are heavy.

Thanks for all the suggestions for shoes. I'm going shopping today, so I may

check out New Balance shoes at a department store and got to Payless Shoes to

see if they have anything that might work. I also saw the brand name Ariat, and

I'm thinking of checking those out as well at a local western wear store. I'll

let everyone know if I find something that really works.

Elaine, What a coincidence! My son was married last August, and I had

the same shoe dilemma you did. I also wore a very formal pant suit

(split skirt) which looked like a long flowing gown. It was taupe in

color, and I ordered NEW Balance 810's that matched the dress almost

perfectly. I have worn them several times since, mostly with khaki

colored pants. They are so comfortable! We just need to be creative and

keep an open mind, but I still miss my days in heels.

I also have very wide feet and I was in a wedding a couple of years

ago. I looked everywhere and finally found the perfect shoes in a

cream color with a small heel at Nordstrom's. Nordstrom's has grown

up looking shoes in small sizes. I wear a 13 1/2 to a size 1 EE. I

think the shoes I got were a size 1 Wide and they were perfect. My

friend Debbie who was the bride approved of them too.

Try Merrels! I can't wear mules excpet their clog-mules are perfect! They

come in all colors and are so l ight. I can actually walk " perfectly " in them

compared to even my tennis shoes.

Hi Spy,Thats so funny, I had a closet full too.I could wear

most shoes till I hit about 30 than all down hill from

there.I also love clothing but i am usually just in jeans or

sweats to go with my sneakers. Have you had any type of

corrective surgery?I am not sure why the new balance work so

well but they are the only shoes that make me feel that I

have normal feet. They all have different #s, mine are 704.

I think the higher the # the more they cost but for me it is

hi thanks for the input on the clogs. these Merrells stay on

your feet? I cant imagin that any slides would stay on mine,

I always walk right out of them but would like to give them

a try. Do you have high arches also? I dont really know know

why they dont stay on. high arches, weak ankles, weak front

I have extremely high arches. I can't wear heels at all, either. However,

these clogs have a " rocking " effecct and i guess that is what he;ps me walk

almost perfectly. I have suede ones for the winter and they make them in a

lightweight mesh material for the warmer months. I also buy their sandals that

have a toe ring.

I absolutely love Merrells and feel like I could walk miles in them!

wears a 7 1/2 but also wears a 7 1/2 in all shoes.

store doesn't have your size they order them for you. It took less than a week

to get them sent to my home.

Hi Sue, the MBT shoes are very different than Birkenstocks...the inside of

the shoe is like a normal sneaker, but the bottom sole is not flat, it is

convex, so you literally roll from one end of the shoe to the back when you

walk.

The most convex part is almost 2 inches thick, so you are pretty well

cushioned from whatever surface you are on and you never step " hard " as you

walk...hard to explain. But the design is based on creating more of the type

of

surface our feet were designed to work on (hilly vs flat) before everything was

paved. They are being advertised as good for fighting cellulite and I have

noticed no improvement on that front, but I really like them for walking...I

got mine through a catalogue called Bliss.

Sue,- I did try Birkenstocks but they hurt the outsides o my feet. I am always

looking for

comfy shoes, I had been diagnosed years ago with mylen sheath growths and had to

use

orthotics. I even got married in white Roots sandals 28 years ago. I thought

my little

granny would faint. These shoes were designed by a man who had back and knee

problems. He studied the way the masai warriors walk and designed his shoes to

create

the same gait on regular streets. You have to almost relearn how to walk, but

I love mine.

What ever works for us is most important. Hope your hips are working.

weight and do not place any pressure on your feet. They have a

really good insole for support but are extremely comfortable. The

only thing I can say that I don't like is that they are warm. My

feet get too hot to wear them in the summer. Other than that they

of info since

they have been available there longer. The American headquarters are in Hailey,

Idaho. A

shop in Ketchum carries them. That is where I got mine when I was out for the

symphony

this summer. You can just order them online though.

I LIVE in my Birkenstocks ! I wear them as slippers year round and

have also been known to wear them with socks in the Fall/Winter.

They aren't the most feminine looking but ...... I've learned to

put comfort first....people might be laughing at me but if so, I'm

happily clueless. I'm at a point where I think they look pretty

cool. I don't go anywhere without them. The other thing is they

last forever ! Mine are 7 years old and only now do I feel that I

need a new pair.

Somebody had posted about them hurting her feet.....I think it's

normal when you first start wearing them. I bought mine in Key West

at the Birkenstock store and they were emphatic about only wearing

them for a couple hours at a time until they got broken in. Of

course I pushed it a bit and my feet did hurt. After I took the

salesman's advice, within a week or 2 I was all set.

The other shoe which is supposed to be AWESOME are Dansko clogs.

That's going to be my next shoe purchase...after replacing my Birkys.

Ditto the Birkenstocks recommendation. Once they're

broken in, they're yummy. They also last nearly

forever. I wear their clogs to work and their sandals

the rest of the time.

I've tried the Dansko brand, but something about the

way they're structured just doesn't agree with my

feet.

Have you tried s? They have good support, they're

very comfortable, and they're a tad dressier than the

Birkenstocks.
