Thanks Miche, Those are my main concerns and my reasons for

questioning the diagnosis. I am convinced we need a second opinion.

A child who does not understand social norms (e.g. personal space) and

who is not able to develop age appropriate relationships with peers

does meet the criteria. Lack of eye contact is not a requirement for

an autism diagnosis. Nor is a lack of interest in social relationships.

  • 1 year later...

what about prednisone? that would help your

bronchitis too however if you have an infection

(bacterial) the prednisone might not be a good idea

(i.e. at high doses pred lowers your immune system and

can make if harder to fight infection).

Sorry to hear that you're hurting, Tish. MTX works for

me in low doses (10mg weekly). At first I had mouth

sores and bruising...then they lowered the dose and it

started to work..Did it make you sick?

I hope they find something for you quickly,

Dear Tish- Your immune system is effected by the Biologics and DMARDS. Many people are. I think that using hand sanitizer with ethyl alcohol helps alot. I bathe in the stuff. I even put a little under my nose as strange as that seems. Having a hubby who works in that setting and a 7+9 year old means they bring everything home. If its spread by the air you can try a portable (around your neck) air purifier with ozone. People swear by them when traveling on planes, asthma, etc. Wear a mask. The kind they wear for surgery. Have a purifying spray like lysol and spray your hubby/kids clothes when they come in and have them use hand sanitizer right as they come in the house. Just a pump and it dries straight away. I use it for everything now. I wipe down the kitchen and bathroom surfaces and light switches etc. I have been taking Remicade since 01 along with MTX. What about steriod. A very low dose? Ask about abatacept which may be more helpful. I dont believe in giving myself injections but would rather have an IV given once every 8 weeks or so in a medical sanitary setting. I also swear by zicam and zinc lozenges for colds or upper respiratory. You must be suffering terribly. I feel for you. You should treat yourself as if everyone has the bird flu but you. I take a super multi vitamin, and drink huge 32 oz mugs of Hot Water/Honey with equal and OJ. Its a sort of Anti Cold Mimosa and does boost your immune system naturally without causing a worsening of your symptoms. For atleast a little relief ask your doctor for a low dose prednisone. In conjunction with Ibuprofen and Darvocet it should help a little. Talk to your doctor about abatacept as I mentioned or Remicade. Ethyl Alcohol, not Isopropyl Alchohol kills every germ there is. Have additional questions........just email. Yours, Deborah in Maine

This is warning to those with small children and using hand sanitizer. The hand sanitizer can result in alcohol poisoning. Considering is smells so good and feels so good on the hands there have been a few isolated deaths as well as a few more small children that resulted in ER trips due to hand sanitizer.

The same goes for lysol. I don't think it was meant to be sprayed on a person. Please read the warning labels and cautions on these products when using on skin.

To the poster you immune system is just totally beat down. I would stop any drugs that can further suppress you immune system. All the suggestions are good...I would ask your doc if you can try airborne or other holistic methods to boost your immune system. Most of us with auto-immune disease do not need that....

I know I personally never...hardly never get sick as long as I can stay off certain DMARDs which suppress my immune system too far. See what's new at AOL.com and Make AOL Your Homepage.

It is a great idea for everyone to wash their hands and if they are feeling ill to not get in close contact with others, but many times we may go to a place that isnt of any value in the fight against germs and disease. Wiping surfaces off periodically that everyone touches and uses is a good thing, There was a lady I used to know that made her family enter the house thru the garage where the washer and dryer were located and they had to strip off their clothes and leave their shoes out there before they could come home. Maybe just a little too extreme? Anyways, my hubby works with sick people all day, uses good habits all day long of washing between patients and keeping his hands out of his own face. I have been on MTX .9cc injections and biological injections for several years, and yes I do them at home..... actually I feel home is better than the doctors office as most of the time illness is spread in confined well populated quarters.

Plus I feel we can all be clean as the doctors offices if we try,now remember the office is clean, not sterile. These suggestions are to be used in moderation of course. Ethyl alcohol is used in restaurants to sanitize dishes and glasses and I dont think a 7 or 9 year old should eat the product. Its to be used with supervision. As for spraying, just the clothes, not the person. It can be used to sanitizer surfaces, even the phone. It works for me. I hope my suggestions will be of some use. Hi Tish, I am new here but had some of the same problems. I can't take any of the "new "drugs because I get infection so easy. My Rheumy has put me on Low dose Pred, Zantac (for all the other meds tummy side effects) and Bactrim (antibiotic) that I take 3 times a week to help fight off bugs. I also take MTX and a few other. Whenever I do start to get bronchitis I just stop my MTX for a week until it starts to clear up. I spent 3-4 days every 3 weeks in the hosp with pneum and/or bronchitis one cold/flu season so he tries to prevent as much as possible. A little about me - I have had RA diagnosed since 2001, I am 39 mom to 1 child, just recently found out I am getting divorced, live in NE OH, have tried Remicade (allergic reaction) and Enbrel (damaged my lungs) have been off work since 2001 on long term disability, I have an almost 11 y/o with her own severe health issues and just had carpal tunnel surgery on

my right hand, left one will be done on 22nd. But, I treat everyday as a blessing because it doesn't change anything if I feel sorry for myself. I am still able to get around, I take Viacodin to dull some pain in my movements when they weather starts to change but other than that I am holding my ground. Dianeladydudet <tish40@...> wrote: Hi! I agree with the sleep part. I am so tired most of the time. I take naps when I can.
