My daughter (grown) just had her right kidney removed

a month ago and woke up

out of surgery with pain and numbness on her left side

from the small of her

back to her toes. They say it is from compressed

nerves from being in a fetal

position on her left side for 6 hours during surgery

but are not saying she

will regain it all back. They have never heard or seen

anything like this

before. (yeah, right) She is going to rehab now, doing

exercises in the whirlpool,

and having some stimulation done to the small of her

back. The numbness had

slowly disappeared from her back on down, but her foot

is really bad off. She

fell and sprained it two weeks ago...I applied ice

immediately and the swelling

went down right away. But because she can't feel

anything in her foot (except

jabbing pain and constant pain) she didn't know she

sprained it until I took

her to the Dr. a few days ago. He wrapped it in an Ace

bandage and said to use

it as much as possible so the muscles are exercised.

Also, that nerves are hard

to treat and may not heal completely. They don't have

any suggestions on how

to treat nerves. Does anybody have any suggestions?

She doesn't want to stay

in a wheelchair and use a walker the rest of her life

and be in constant pain

besides. All suggestions are greatly appreciated. I am

a Dr. devotee and

tell eveyone I can about her.

Hi All,

I was just wondering if anyone else out there is having problems with

nerve damage. I just had surgery on my left elbow. They had to do a

transposition of the ulnar nerve. I am also having problems with

numbness in my right leg and kind of concerned about that. It seems to

happen if I am on my feet for very long at a time.

I cannot say enough good things about this board. All of you have

helped my mental state of mind so much. Thank you.

Big giant hugs from Oklahoma!!

A low dose of a sedative (like Xanax) might help if you are open to it. Or,

you can try Melatonin. These are not curative. I am not sure what might

turn the damage around. If you find out, let me know. Other herbs and

therapies that might help:

Gingko

Primrose Oil (or other oils high in gamma-linolenic acid)

A diet high in inositol

Essiac

Thanks

One of the standard chemotherapies for colon cancer is oxaliplatin, a

plantinum containing compound. This chemotherapy produced permanent

and extensive nerve damage in my hands and feet, which I will

probably never recover from. There are days when I wonder if it is

worth trying to continue fighting the cancer due to the extreme

discomfort of my neuropathy.

Have you tried a product called Benfotamine? You buy it online. It is

specifically for neuropathy - several BVitamins and other stuff. I have had

success.
