I've had 5 hip replacements and about 6 years ago I was having thigh numbness along with increasing pain. I told my rheumatologist, who just said, "we'll keep an eye on it". I came home from work one day and as I was climbing my stairs, my femur snapped in two and I fell down the stairs also breaking my hip and destroying my hip replacement. What had happened, as we found out later, was that the long spike from my hip replacement that is inserted down into the femur was rubbing against the inside if the bone and causing a hairline fracture of my femur. I should have had xrays when I first felt the pain. Anyone with mid thigh pain, please check it out as soon as you feel discomfort. My left hip was first done in 1975 and I just had it done again the second time in 2005 so 30 years is not bad. Like I said I've had 5 hip replacements and 3 knee replacements and try to stay active. Guest guest Posted November 23, 2006 Report Share Posted November 23, 2006 I have a question for those who have had hip surgery and following the surgery had numbness in their thigh. How long did it take for normal feeling to return to your thigh? and have you experienced stabbing/burning pain in your thigh? I had hip surgery, cleaned out a septic hip and was caught early enough that I didn't need hip replacment, last May. Recently I have started having intense stabbing, burning pain in the lower part of my thigh. One of the surgeons said he had to 'move' a nerve aside to do the surgery on the hip joint, and that in 3 to 6 months I would get the feeling back in my hip. Is the pain normal as a sign that I am gettng the feeling back? Or something that I will be bringing up with my Rheumy when I see him next week?
