Guest guest
Hi Jeannie....I am sorry to hear about your pain. I had a myelogram a few weeks ago and the dr gave me a valium to take about 30 minutes before I went in for the procedure. I felt a very small needle stick and that was it. The dr asked me how it was and I told him great. He acted shocked. I guess valium worked for me. Then last Wednesday I had surgery to remove a spur that was pressing into my spinal cord. It is 3 days post op and I feel better now than I did prior to surgery. Glad it is over! Guest guest
Hi Jeannie, Sorry for all you are going thru with your pain! I have had many epidurals done, both on my neck and on my lower back because of spinal injuries both places. With all my epidurals, it was done in a hospital, outpatient, and prior to the date of the procedure I had to meet with my pain doctor, my primary doctor, go get lab work done, get a chest x-ray, register at the hospital and meet with the anesthesiologist at that point. I don't think it is a general anestesia they use, it's a sedation, but more than a valium, you will be totally knocked out first and you wont remember a thing...cept maybe getting into the O.R. and waking up in recovery. Of course I'm not sure if this is different depending on the doctor you see, but mine wouldn't do it any other way than in a hospital. I do believe that your lawyer can go after her insurance co. for the medical. Don't know if this differs by state, but for some reason I think there should be $10,000 in hers/his for this reason. I could be way wrong, I don't remember well. Sorry! The medical bills just pile up soo fast and your own medical from your car insurance won't last long so definately look into the other drivers insurance. I wish you the best of luck! Guest guest
HI Jeannie I would definetly have a neck epidural done in a hospital and ask your dr to get you ONE valium to take and it will help you relax before you get the shot. I had some done in a regular pain dr's office and he was supposed to numb it before he started putting the needle in. Well my neck was NOT NUMB when he started, he didn't wait long enough or put enough stuff in. Either way I asked him to stop, he wouldn't and I was trapped with a needle in my neck and nothing I could do. But it hurt so much I felt the entire thing every milimeter it went in and the next day I could not even move my neck without it going into spasms and hurting like H***!!!!!!!! I was supposed to have 3 shots there I went back for the second one against my better wishes and when I asked the nurse before hand if it should have hurt that much she told me NO WAY. Yet when the dr came in and I asked him the samething he told me sometimes and she changed her tune to his side. SO I told them NO MORE SHOTS I was there but I wasn't taking another one. They gave me a dosepack of steriods instead and I went home with those. I also reported that dr too my regular dr who sent me there and warned him NEVER to send anyone to that pain clinic. I know several people now who have had shots in their neck and back and not a ONE of them went thru what I did. When I had my myelograms done I had them done at the hospital and as I said with a valium I never felt a thing. I also had the wires connected to my back for my trial stimulator test done that way and it didn't hurt a bit. Don't want to scare you here cause I know I had the one in a million times this happened but I think you should be warned that the best way to have it done and if they should hurt you like this to MAKE them stop right away. We have rights even though dr's are treating us and one of them is NOT to put us in anymore pain than neccessary. But at the time this happened I was just starting this long road of pain I have been on and honestly I didn't know how to make the crazy dr STOP. But I did NOT let him touch me again I knew I had that right anyway. Best wishes I hope a shot or two helps your neck feel better. I know its frustrating having to go backwards when your neck was doing so well, but if you go slow and easy on it I pray it will heal up well for you again. Lifting is out until you feel better, that is one thing you should not push at all, it will really set you back. Maybe you can ask your dr after your shots if you can try water theraphy I am sure that would help you strengthen your neck without alot of pressure on it. Maybe there is a physical theraphy pool or a YWCA or even a public pool nearby you that you can go too. I found out before with my neck and back that swimming and exercises in the pool really helped me and they put no stress on either of them. I sure wish it would warm up more here so I could go swimming, I LOVE the water. A friend used to call me part fish cause I love it so much Best wishes for a speedy recovery and hang in there Jeannie will keep you in my prayers. Guest guest
Hi Jeannie, I've had two neck epidurals, or " ESI's " as they are sometimes called. Unfortunately for me, they did not work to help alleviate the pain in my neck and mid-thoracic area. But for a lot of people, they are great for blocking the pain. If it does work for you, then typically the relief will last for six months before it wears off. Don't be discouraged if the first one doesn't do it. Most people need a second or even third shot. Most doctors won't do more than 3. The shot itself shouldn't hurt. They will give you at the very least a topical anesthetic. For me, it hurt more when I got home. Stay off your feet for a day and you should be ok. I needed a day to recover each time. As for cost, my insurance company was charged $1700 total each time. I don't know where they are getting the $10k figure unless your clinic uses full anesthesia or something. Good luck with it. I hope you find relief from the epidural. > > Hi all, > My lawyer called, I guessed they pulled a rabbit out of the hat and mysteriously found the money for the $10,000. neck epidural. For those of you who have had one, does it help, and how lond did it help? Also, do you have to take it easy for a week or two afterwards to help it heal? Thanks for any help- > > Jeannie > > > > ______________________________________________________________________ ______________Ready for the edge of your seat? > Check out tonight's top picks on TV. > http://tv./ > >

Guest guest
Hi all Had my expensive neck epidural yesterday-they (2 drs. and anaesthiologist) put me completely out, which is probably why is cost 10 grand-it only took less than 1 hr., including recovery. I'm having some discomfort today, headache and some soreness, but I imagine I still have some of the stuff they knocked me out with lingering. I've had so many surgeries, I know I have to drink a lot of fluids to get it all out of my body. I just hope I get more than a months' relief from pain, and get some movement back. All the drs. flipped out when they noticed the shade of yellow that my body still is, According to 2 of my other drs., nothing is wrong, but one gave me paperwork for labwork just in case. And it takes my spine clinic drs. to notice something is wrong, now my eyes are yellowish. So Monday off I go to get labwork done. I know this is not relevant to back or neck, but some of my friends have wondered if it could be due to many years of taking hydrocodone. Can't seem to find on internet if my opiate I've been on for 3 years can cause liver damage. They make me have an EKG every year because of the opiate, but no one has suggested any other tests. Well, enough of my pity party, I'll deal with it like I have everything else that has popped up-life goes on. Hope everyone is doing as well as can be, you all are my life savers- Jeannie ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ oneSearch: Finally, mobile search that gives answers, not web links. http://mobile./mobileweb/onesearch?refer=1ONXIC
