Guest guest
Hello Doc, A friend of mine gave me a bottle of Vita-flax organic flax seed powder. It is a great source of potassium and fiber. The bottle says it contains 4% iron. I have hep c and want to know if it is allright to take a supplement with iron. My GI when I was on treatment said that I was not to take anything with iron added. Can you help me with this? Terry
Guest guest
Better to avoid iron. Which is in all enriched flour, incidentally. Flax seed pwoder is never cheaper and never fresher than when you do it yourself. For under $2 a pound you can get organic flaxseeds. Most people have a little spice/coffee grinder, if not get one (which you can for about the cost of a bottle of flaxseed oil) and grind it freshly as you use it. Guest guest
And Flax Seed is delicious. The iron in flax is not added, and the amount of flax seed eaten per day, a tablespoon or so, isn't providing much iron at all. Don't worry about it. Even my diabetes educator recommended flax seed for so very many reasons. Sally re:flax seed powder Better to avoid iron. Which is in all enriched flour, incidentally.
