Marie, I agree with you. In time, you may want to change, but for now, if you

feel comfortable with this doctor, trust your guts. I have a hepatologist with

all the training in the world, coming out of Loyola Hospital in the Chicago

area. When I questioned the combo treatment, he acted just like the gastro guy

you talked about - he flat out lied to me, and was so P.O.'d that I knew what I

was talking about. OMG, when I told him I didn't think he had my best interests

at heart, he went postal on me! I don't know what his problem was, but he was a

foreign doctor who came from a culture where women had no say. I have a feeling

this colored his judgement, and he was thinking about billable tests, hours, and

treatment. Needless to say, I'm looking for a different doctor!

Marilyn

my internist

Thanks to everyone on the advice with the viral load test. As far as my

internist goes, he's been my doctor for a long time and has been studying up

on Hepatitis C for a good while. He was my doctor when I was on the

interferon monotreatment. He has learned more about the combo treatment,

too. He's a caring and attentive doctor. There is only one

gastroenterologist within miles (we live in a small town) and he's a real

!#@ & #, if you know what I mean. I tried him once and was really put off. I

couldn't trust him. He'll tell me things that I knew were wrong and would

get upset if I seemed to know what I was talking about. Like, patients are

suppose to be dumb and not know anything. I was just a number to him.

Anyway, I think I'll do OK with my internist. He has a friend out of town

who's a gastroenterologist and he speaks to him from time to time, too. He

has really gone above and beyond the call of duty for me. It's hard to say

that about lots of doctors.

Thanks,

Marie
