Guest guest
Hi , That's actually what I do regularly. If I want to grow a perfect looking scoby, I put about a cup of sweet tea and a cup of strong starter tea together into a quart jar, leave it go for two weeks and get a nice 1/2 " to 3/4 " thick scoby. The reason I do it seperate from my main brew is so I don't always have to be disturbing the baby scoby at the top when I do a new batch every 7-10 days. It has worked wonderfull every time. I think we get the idea sometimes that kombucha is almost like kefir. If you don't have kefir grains, you're not gonna make some after a while either. They absolutely have to come from other grains. It is a mystery as to where they first actually originatated. For kt you don't HAVE to have a mother scoby to start a kt brew. Everything that is necessary for kt can be in the liquid. (correct me if I'm wrong) I do think it is a good idea to have a mother to start though and every healthy brew should be making plenty of babies. (Edwin Shank) Re: Weird Question I've just grown a 1/4 " thick one in a coffee jar using only strong sugared tea and about 10-25% of starter and positively, definitely, beyond doubt, NO mum SCOBY in, you might give that a whirl. Guest guest
I feel like most of my daughters issues are quiet for now. Back in 2003 a Rheumie in Portland thought my daughter had scoliosis (sp). I took her to a chirpractor who told me that she did not have curvature of the spine, but that she was off, and that an adjustment was all that she needed. Fast forward to now....She has been in a lot of pain with her back. She is not hla-b29 or does not have AS. Most of her problems were minor joint wise, but awful vision wise. I took her to the chiropractor and he said she was 60% off with her posture, and that she is out of balance in her hips. I have known for a long time that her posture is quirky to say the least. He can correct her to 90%, but doesn't want to do more until she stops growing. She will more than likely need a lift in one of her shoes. Has anyone else dealt with this? Is this a consequence of JIA, or steroids? The kid has had several injections near the eyes, and never cried. After volleyball she is in tears.... Any suggestions? Guest guest
Hi , It is important to talk to the rheumatologist about this, not the chiropractor. There might be something new going on in your daughter's back which needs to be dealt with by the rheumatologist. Good luck. Guest guest
HI - I just want to say that I would agree with that you should be seeing your ped rheumy, not the chiropractor. A rheumy will be able to check the back for any inflammation. Also, even though is is HLA-B27 negative doesn't mean she won't have inflammation in her spine. I hope is gets relief from her back pain soon! & Grant (12, psoriatic/uveitis) > > From: lcdanceacademy <lcdanceacademy@...> > Subject: weird question > > Date: Friday, September 25, 2009, 3:42 AM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I feel like most of my daughters issues are quiet for now. Guest guest
, I would bring it up with the rheum. My son also had back issues and didn't turn up positive for any tests which normally indicate a probable cause of back pain. The rheum. said never to rule out arthritis in the back just because the tests results aren't positive. Also, my son always has his legs measured at each appointment. A flare, even a small one, sends extra blood to that joint and therefore " feeds " that bone. As a result, some kids have discrepencies in the length of their limbs because kids are constantly growning. Our rheum ordered custom shoe inserts to adjust for his leg length discrepencey and we have had them changed as he grows. That helped his pain quite a bit. Also, he did physical therapy to help with his core strength and flexibility because the small amount of arthritis that they sensed in his back was really stiffening him up and causing pain. No offense to chiropractors, they do a wonderful job, I would always check with the rheum. first. (Will - spondy 11) > > I feel like most of my daughters issues are quiet for now. Guest guest
I want to thank everybody for responding. I really dislike doctors LOL I try so hard to stay away from them, but you all have given me some great reasons to make her an appointment. Time to get rid of my denial and just see what he says ; ) Thank you for being my sounding board....
