facial scarring

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone's child has dealt with this side effect of

Naprosyn. has been on Naprosyn consistently for 1 1/2 years.

Over the weekend I noticed tiny little scabs on her nose. I also

noticed a scratch on her cheek. We happened to pick up pictures that

we had taken over a month ago, and the scratch on the cheek and one

tiny scab was on her nose way back then. I am calling her doctor this

morning. He has wanted her off the Naprosyn anyway, and I am sure that

is what he is going to say to do.

What other NSAIDS can a child take, if taken off of Naprosyn for facial

scarring? Are the scars permanent? Can Zantac cause it? What did

your child's face look like? I have read some descriptions, and

doesn't seem to have large blisters, etc.

Hello! Yes, it was the pseudoporphyria that she had. You really can't tell

now that she had it unless you look very, very closely. She has a lot of

freckles, so it sort of blends right into her freckles. It took a very long

time to stop happening, and a very long time for the scars to fade so that they

aren't noticeable. She has dirty blonde hair and hazel eyes. I guess blue

eyes/gray eyes are a risk factor for developing pseudoporphyria. Now that she

is back on an NSAID, I plan to be very diligent with the sunblock.

about the medication they had approved her new arthur med. She is on relafen I

guess now. The generic name is Nabumetone, the pharmacist said it is quite a bit

stronger then the mobic, she was on 7.5 mgs of mobic and now she is on 500 mg

tabs of this twice per day.?Fortunatly she is?already on prevacid, the

pharmacist said this will probably cause more?tummy trouble then the mobic

did.?So we will see how this works, at least she has three weeks before school

starts to get used to the new med to see if it will cause problems. I just hope

that it kicks in quick and helps her.? she is in less pain today then she has

been all week with her feet so maybe it is getting better on it's own.? Anyone

that has been on?Relafen let me know?what side effects to expect. The pharmacist

basically just discussed the tummy trouble with?me.? Although he?seemed to make

me think that it is not as effective as many other arthur med's.??

I think my girl ( 4 years old) as the same, but it's hard to get her doctors involved.. like they don't really know it can be a side effect of naproxen... And also it's not easy to find information abour pseudoporphyria on the internet... I wish I had someone to talk to...
