She has been involved with the Arthritis Foundation Walk for two years. Dierking was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis at age 10 and was bedridden for nearly a year. She has had several knee surgeries to stabilize her joints before getting a total knee replacement in December 2005. She has remained physically active, and has competed in seven marathons. She also participates in swimming and cycling. " I hope other patients, especially those who are newly diagnosed with arthritis, will see that it is possible to remain active and to enjoy life,'' Dierking said. " The Arthritis Walk is a celebration and it is wonderful to see and feel the love and support from everyone who takes part.''
