Guest guest
, Kava Kava has been found to be a pro-convulsant in some studies, Also, it may cause liver damage. So it is best to avoid it. The literature on Valerian suggests that it may be effective as a mild anti-anxiety agent, and that it may also act as an anti-convulsant. See link below and the attached article. http://botanical.com/botanical/mgmh/v/valeri01.html However, check to see if there are any possible interactions with the AED you are taking. Herbs are drugs, and can interact with AEDs. It's best to consult with your neurologist to see if he/she has any objections, or at least search the Internet for anything suggesting an interaction. PM Please respond to @yah oogroups.com Hi there I'm wondering if anyone has an ideas for a fast acting natural alternative to valium? I don't take medication but occasionally take valium if I think I may be at risk of having a seizure, its the only thing that relaxes the muscle tension and twitching I get that sometimes preceeds a seizure and levels me out again and works instantly every time. I've been reading about L-theanine and Kava kava has anyone tried these as valium alternatives? Many thanks,

On the epi-list there were many posts by Foxhillers@aol who used Lobelia inflata for stopping seizures immediately. You might want to look into the archives, or contact her. Guest guest
- , Check your perspective here. Why wait for the crisis to occur? L- theanine's action is to raise the Gaba levels as I understand it. It works differently from Valium however. You can research the difference and see how one affects certain Gaba receptors and the other affects different ones. The point here is that--or the question here is--why are you waiting to do something about you stress levels? We all get caught sometimes and this is inevitable of course. What I have done is to take L-theanine 100mg on an empty stomach in the morning with my other meds and then again at night before bed--about an hour before bedtime. It seems to help my overall stress levels and anger levels to some degree. My best medicine is meditation before sleep--by a long shot! I find that if I meditate until I can no longer stay awake that this is the fearless and self-healing approach I can take to sleeping well and gaining all the benefits. I have also discovered a little magic to help sleep as well. It is called " Slumber Spray. " Three sprays under the tongue and I am on my way to a good nights sleep. I have tried many approaches to sleeping better and this one is only one that works for me. It is a combination of B3, Niacin, and a proprietary complex of HTP, Melatonin, Valerian Root, Passion Flower, Hops and MSM. I have tried these ingrediates separately but always have a blood sugar reaction to them--probably due to the amounts. Guest guest
Have you tried tincture of lobelia Inflata? It's good for arresting seizures - 8 drops under the tongue. How do you take the magnesium phosphate, passionflower & valerian ? Guest guest
Thanks for the info Mike - its always hard to know about these things cos each time you see a herbal reccomended theres always info somewhere else warning about the dangers. I do already use valerian usually before I go to sleep if I'm feeling a bit tired or stressed and find it helpful - it doesn't have the same 'instant valium effect' that I'm looking for though. Not on any AED's - haven't taken any for about 7 years now. They didn't really work for me and I feel much more in control of my condition now which has improved immensely but still learning! > > > , > > Kava Kava has been found to be a pro-convulsant in some studies, Also, it > may cause liver damage. Guest guest
Many thanks Katharina I will look into the lobelia - I didn't know that about valerian, maybe a high dose of valerian would have a similar effect then? > > In einer eMail vom 09.12.06 01:51:03 (MEZ) Mitteleuropäische Zeit schreibt > ph_ipsy@...: > > > Thema: [ ] Valium - Any herbal alternatives? > > Datum: 09.12.06 01:51:03 (MEZ) Mitteleuropäische Zeit > > Von: ph_ipsy@... > > Beantworten: > > An: > > Internet-eMail: > > > > > > > > Hi there > > > > I'm wondering if anyone has an ideas for a fast acting natural > > alternative to valium? Guest guest
I use valerian but just as an anti-stress thing to help me get a good sleep as I find the effects too subtle for anything else. I'll try the mag phos - how much do you take for it to work fast? > > > i find magnesium phosphate works for twiches, and the herbs passionflower & valerian > > > TREMORAhttp://tremorahowells.tripod.com/mydad/ > Click to join Motor_Neurone_Disease > Send instant messages to your online friends http://au.messenger. > >
