& , That's a great idea! After the fill your stoma can swell from the pressure, it is no fun! I too went to the ER back in March but..they were not able to help in the least..clueless as to what the band even was! They offered me a NG-Tube...wanted to drown me I guess...so I opted to go home & have an unfill with my Dr. the next afternoon...it was a rough night..slept "sitting-up" on the sofa, spitting foam every 5 minutes! I hang-out in Frederick now after a fill for a few hours and have her # handy..just-in-case. ;-) Good luck lady's..hope all goes well this time.Dana

Hi ,

It would be great to see you again and I would love to

have done something in San Diego...but I really can't

wait that long. I have already started to gain back a

bit of the weight that I had lost. I am going on the

29th, and will be staying over night in Mexicali. Not

taking any chances of any repeat problems.

ER kept trying to get me to drink something and could

not believe that I could not keep ice chips down. I do

have to give the doctor a lot of credit. He didn't

have a clue of what I was trying to describe, but he

did a lot of homework and spoke to other doctors.

There is one doing lap-bands here in Melbourne, at the

same hospital that I was at, but of course he would

not see, or talk to me since I had the band done in

Mexico...but I think that he did talk to this doctor.

Like I said, he did his homework and I was able to

guide him with the rest of it.

Maybe next time.....

I understand, . Let me know how your next fill goes and what your total

fill is when you get home. One of the ladies that goes to the same salon as

I do is leaving tomorrow (Monday) for banding by Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana. I

spoke with her today. As it turns out, she lives on the same road I live

on--who would have known. She was excited and full of questions. Her name

is Belinda. Keep her in your thoughts. Her surgery is Wednesday.

Best Wishes!

I will keep her in my prayers of course. I would feel

better if she was going to Dr A. and so a couple of

extra prayers are in order. When will she be coming

home and will you be hearing from her?

I will let you know how it went when I get back.

She comes home on Friday. It seems she knows a doc north of us who had his

band surgery done by Dr. Ortiz--hence she chose the same one. Take care.

Jenni, thank you so much!!! :-) Isnt it funny when we look back at

ourselves. Like I was telling someone the other day, I used to tell

myself I looked good for being heavy. But now when I look back at

pics I cringe! I think we have to do that for survival, dont you?

Because being heavy in this world is so hard, and people are so

cruel! But when we start to loose and we see that person changing in

the mirror, it is such a wonderful, liberating experience! I try to

tell myself to enjoy the journey, not just the destination! But

sometimes that easier said that done! :-) But thank you for the

compliment. I enjoying seeing everyones pictures too, because the

change in people body and soul is amazing!! :-) I get just as

excited looking at everyones pics as I do my own.

hugs,

Jackie, I am having a similar experience. I had my right hip done last August,

and my left

one done on the 22 of January. I came home in 4 days with the first one, but I

was there

10 days this time. Like you, my blood was low and it affected my oxygen level.

Whenever I

did PT my oxygen level would go down to 86. I feel weaker this time also. I got

2 units of

blood the first time which I didn't get this time around. I don't know whether

that is having

an effect on my tiredness.

I don't know your age, but I will be 68 next month, and for the first time I

feel it. lol

Let's hang in there. It will get better.

Hi Kem.

Could join you in the same boat...each time i have tried beef in any form have

been so ill for soooo long. I have decided to give up the idea of re trying

every few weeks as i have had enough of the pain. It's chicken or fish for me or

low fat ricotta or cottage cheese.

I eat 1000-1200 cals a day and even tho I had one great week after getting my

3rd fill, i am back to no sweet spot yet again. As of yesterday I too have

gained..1 and 1/2 pounds and i can see no reason why..so have decided to do

protein alone for 2 meals. and water thru the day of course. A few folk on an

aussie site have said protein will kick start the loss so I figure I have

nothing to lose,,no pun intended, lol.

Hope you clear that migraine soon,, tramadol makes me hallucinate...so the

kids tell me. I don't recall a thing but feeling very odd and having to lie down

real quick..

Take care and power to us all, carol in Australia

For past 2 weeks I've been eating 1200 - 1250 calories a day, low

actually regained 2 pounds;-( I've made some changes with using low

calorie mayo, heart smart margarine, etc... but coming down from my

normal 1600 calories hasn't seemed to jog the weight yet. I just

joined a group called hotflash and found others who are going

misery loves company but it is helpful to see that I am not alone.

For the past 2 days I've had the migraine from hell. Doc gives me

Ultram/Tramadol and it makes me so loopy but takes care of the

headache. Last night I finally started feeling better, no longer

blinded by the aura so I decided to fix some stir fry veggies in a

bit of EVOO for dinner. Normally I have no issues with veggies but

dear hubby decided to toss in some steak. Since being banded I've

only had 1 real go with vomiting so naturally I thought I could have

a few bites of steak. I chewed and chewed but after all was said and

done I ended up with a horrible stomach ache that lasted over 12

hours. I didn't sleep at all, tossed everything up during the

numerous times I got up last night. The pain reminded me of a gall

bladder attack I had years ago...awful! So far this morning I've

sipped about 1/2 cup of water and feel like somebody beat me with a

bat last night! Even my dad blasted arms hurt. I'm going on sips of

liquids today..no food..yuk!

Re: update

Punch, punch, jab, jab.....Yippeeee, ooo and all that jazz!

I am obviously home and may I say glad to be. I came home yesterday and other

than the few aches and pains associated with 4 incisions ranging from one inch

to ten inches I am doing great. I did have to place the gloving gloves up as

jumping around proved a wee bit painful. To update, the surgery went well.

Instead of 2 hours it was six. Instead of a few small incisions I have four,

with one running the width of of my pelvis. Basically due to the scleroderma on

my abdomen the laproscopic procedure was stopped midway and a full opening was

required. Not to far from the norm there was some intubation problems and a few

hairy moments but all in all, things went well.

The best news came two days after surgery. I am cancer free! The tumor measured

1.7 cm and was removed as was surrounding area, tissue, and lymph nodes. All

pathology reports were negative and no chemo or radiation will be needed! I

return to the surgeon on Thursday at which time the staples ( a bunch of em)

will be removed and I will see see the oncologist in a month for follow-up and

future plans (when to screen, etc).

Gang...I cannot thank you enough for all your thoughts, prayers, support and

kind words. They have meant so much to me and will continue to be. I have saved

any cards, emails, etc and have them placed where I see them often....

Now I am off here to make a call, my stepdaughter is in the hospital in

labor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hugs, love and huge smiles to all!!!

Donna: I'm so glad things went well. Awesome news and what a relief to be

cancer free. I'm sure that was a huge load off your shoulders. Hope your

recovery is quick and back to your old self really soon. Hope your

Hi Helen:

I hope all the med changes do the trick for Nick. I don't think any kid wants 2

shots!!! I hope the shortened school day is a better fit for him, I feel so

badly for him with all of that. As you know Hannah went to a psychologist who

taught her relaxation techniques and it has done wonders for her. She can even

use these techniques at school if she feels stressed. They taught her different

techniques for different times of the day. She has different things she does at

bedtime vs during the day. I have also taken her for massages and she loved it

!!!

Let us know what happens with the school.

Update

saw his rheumy this afternoon. He has been battling swelling

in his fingers, a couple of toes and stiff knees and ankles. He has

also been very fatigued, needing 12-13 hours of sleep a night.

The good news is that hes growing and gaining weight so it really was

that low dose of prednsone that was slowing that down.

We have upped his relafen to 750mg a day and his remicade will be

going from 200mg to 300mg this friday. The doctor thinks he has

outgrown his current remicade dose. We also went 5 weeks last time,

which is not a good idea and we really have to keep it at 4 week

intervals. We are also thinking of upping his mtx to 32.5mg, but that

would mean 2 shots or a bigger syringe. So we are holding off on that

for now. Hopefully this will get him back on track.

As far as the school issues, the doc was horrified at whats been

going on. She was so sweet as I broke down telling her all thats been

happening. She has written recommendations for a shortened/ modified

school day with homebound if needed. She is concerned about

getting depressed and stressed with all the expectations the school

has put on him. She has recommended an appt with " integertive

medicine " who get into relaxation, massage etc as a way to deal with

stress, I really didnt understsnd it totally. She also recommened i

contact PACER so we can have a advocate with us at the next IEP

meeting. The doc is even willing to come to the school if that would

help, shes such a sweetheart. She was also concerned about my health

and well being as I cannot sleep more than 2-3 hours a day and wants

me to go see my doctor.

So, here's hoping that the medication changes will work and help Nick

feel better and in turn, help him deal better in school.

We are planning on Hershey and cannot wait to see everyone again.. I

need a vacation!!!

I am so glad that you have such a wonderful rheumy. What an advocate for

and for you!

I hope that all these things she suggested work like a charm and that

Nick gets back to feeling and doing well, and that you are able to get

some much-needed rest.

Hooray for your rheumy!

Hi Helen,

I am so glad that you have such an awesome rheumy. I love her plan

about part time school and homebound instruction. I think that will

really benefit Nick. Her suggestion about an advocate at the next

ISP was a great idea.

I hope the increased doses will help Nick to start feeling better and

to have more energy.

Now, don't forget to make that dr. appointment for yourself! You must

be running on about empty right now. Nick sleeps to much and you

sleep to little.

Congratulations on the new baby!! Glad all went well there.

I am happy to hear you are doing well. Just remember to take it easy -

you have so much going on in your life right now, you might start to

push yourself too much. Please take care of yourself too.

I am sorry to hear about your mom and I hope things will improve for her

soon.

Keeping you in my prayers, Michele ( 19, spondy)

Subject: update

just a quick update....first things first...we have our new baby! She

arrived at 5:17am this morning and is absolutely adorable. Hailey

weighed 7

pounds 1 ounce and was 19 and 3/4 inches. I will send pics soon!

As for me I am doing well and according to the docs absolutely wonderful

and

ahead of schedule. I drove today but we wont tell him that. I drove to

my

moms house which is 1/2 a mile down the street. But it felt so good. I

am still

a lil tender in the tummy and the bladder and bowels get confused on

time but

doc said in time. My presurgery weight of 100 is up to 104 and I feel

good.

I owe so much to you guys, the best friends ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your

emails, cards and kind words have meant so

much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, about my mom...she went to have her colonoscopy and unfortunately

was

not able to go through with it. her blood pressure was sky high, heart

rate was

190 and seems there may be a heart problem after all. She will have an

echo

and some other test this week so keep her in your thoughts. My mom is

the

truest form of matriarch and is a tough woman, she is however very

scared. They

seem to think she has Afibrillation...anyone know what this is????

She was most upset that she did the test prep which is not fun and

didn't

even get to have it. I told her this could be a blessing because she did

have

the heart issues a few weeks ago, so mayb now we can find out whats

going

on......

I hope all are well and enjoying beautiful days!!!!!!!!!!!

hugs and smiles!

Hi Dana,

I know you both must be relieved to really know what your band is doing in there! I'm going to do the same at the Houston Bash next weekend just to check up on the bandito. ;) They are only charging $100.00 for fluro - It's worth every penny of that!!!! :) Thanks,Ally

UPDATE

Hi everyone, Just wanted to update you on todays events! Betty & I went to Frederick Hospital today for fluroscopy. As you may remember, we have been having a lot of reflux/heartburn again & nearly every night for a few weeks now. I also haave been losing weight without effort. Well, first, the hospital was spotless like Almater & even had spanish signs all over the place! Made us both feel like we were in Mexicali..Anywho. .This handsome, young doctor comes in, gives us wonderful complements, and explains everything he's about to do. (Which we already knew from Dr.A) I went first. He set up a sterile field of instruments, numbed my tummy, used a port-a-cath type needle with tubing & a roller/stopper on it, Then proceeded with the test. He withdrew 1.4cc...I originally had 1.8cc put in...he put back 1cc after seeing that my flow was not improving with only removing 0.2cc. So I had 0.4cc removed today! He

noticed that my band had "slipped" but not like we all are aware of. It has "moved" down a little. There is no stomach coming up through the band..none. I do have a small Hiatal hernia that he believes is causing my heartburn/reflux & random increased restriction since Feb. It may also be why the band is slightly displaced. I'm going to notify Nina & have the test results sent to Dr.A for his review & opinion. I honestly feel better since this unfill. Less heartburn so far, keeping my fingers crossed!Betty went next. He saw no problems with her band, esophagus, stomach ect. No hiatal hernia seen. He withdrew 0.5cc from her band leaving her with 0.8cc. Her heartburn/reflux should be relieved with this unfill he said. She was very tight and her pouch was not emptying like it should. The barium was staying in her esophagus & pouch way to long. After the unfill, she was draining as she should. We both felt

this was a much needed fluro since we have had our bands for 14 months now. Atleast we know what's going on in there now. It's nice to know we can count on this fine Dr., Dr. Lavaniee ( Dr. Brinkley sent us to him) to give us a professional check-up! He actually seems to know what he's talking about too! ;-)Take care all..Dana & Betty

This is bad news, I'm sorry. But can you explain again what exactly was your

routine ?

You were using DC or AC ? Was that a sota device or homemade ? Did you use a

meter ? If so, what was the average reading ? How

long and how often were the applications ?

You say about Beck protocol. Were you using Colloidal silver too ? If so, was

that homemade ?

Please let us know. It's important for us to understand.

Thanks.
