I have no advice but if you find anything out let me know. I'm 20 and

someday want to have a family. I hope by the time I get married and try to

have

kids this JRA thing will be in the past.. but if not I want to know what i'll

have to go through.

Hi Lori,

I have no answer, nor experience with this - but my gut reaction is to listen to

the rheumy - although the OB is certainly very knowledgeable about pregnancy,

meds, etc - the rheumy is going to be the one that is more knowledgeable about

the effects of enbrel. I have read and heard from a variety of sources that

during pregnancy many women do quite well, even without their medication - so it

may be that you will be one of these women. Hopefully you will hear from some

of our JRA vets who can speak from true experience. Good luck!

I know a lady that had JRA and when she got pregnant she went into

remission. But after she had her little girl she flared BAD. I'm not

trying to scare you but this was just her experience. She actually quit

taking all of her meds when she got pregnant. If you don't find the

answers you want about this let me know. I will see her Monday at our

Arthritis Walk Committee Meeting and I will ask her whatever you want to

know!

Pregnant and on enbrel

I have a question? Has any one been pregnant and continued taking

enbrel? I've searched the enbrel sight but no studies have been made

about the evects on a pregnancy. My Rhummy says to stop taking it and

take a low dose of prednisone. My Ob says continue with the enbrel

only take it every two weeks instead of twice weekly and stay off the

steriod? I'm confused as to which Dr I should listen I don't want

anything to happen to my baby. If any one has any info please pass it

along.

Thanks,

Lori

Lori-

I am also pregnant, but NOT taking Enbrel, I administer it to my daughter

every week. I asked my OB and she said its ok to give it to her since it is

only a pregnancy category B. My daughter is also on MTX and my OB said to have

someone else give it since it is a pregnancy class X. I would ask your

pharmacist since you are having conflicting stories. They are very

knowledgeable, (sometime more than the Doc.!).

Hope this helps!

Lori,

The only advice I can give is sending you all the articles I have

researched on this topic and share others emails that have stayed on

their meds through pregnancy. I have been gathering information for

over a year. I went to a high risk obgyn in December with my husband

to discuss what meds I need to come off of before conceiving and what

I can stay on. She was very knowledgable and came highly recommended

and had dealt with sevearal patients with similar backgrounds to mine.

The high-risk obgyn however does speak to my rhuemie and they agree

on what I can and can not take. I hope this helps. I was thrilled

that she didn't tell us we could never have children since I have

been on predinose ect since I was 8 years old and am now 27.

I also just started emailing a woman who is due in the next few

months and she has been helpful in what to expect during pregnancy

and how the weight gain will effect my joints.

regarding pregnancy and meds the advice is different wherever you go. May I

recommend close evaluation and good communication with your treatment team. My

name is Donna and I have JRA. I also have been blessed with 2 great children!

On my own I stopped all meds while pregnant and I was in remission with each.

I did flare after the birth of my oldest but that was because I did not start

back on my meds upon his birth and I should have. I thought the remission may

last but didnt. I know of others who have had children some on meds but most

off. I am not sure of any enbrel moms but I do know a methotrexate mom who quit

it once she found out (surpised). I know of moms who were on pred as well. If

I can be of any help you can email me at faces1999@....

best of luck!

Donna

Hi

I'm really behind on posts again, had a bad few days of migraines. But

I'm trying to catch up! When I read this, I got to wondering - I know

I've read this before, that a lot of women with arthritis go into

really complete remissions while they're pregnant. So what I'm

wondering is... is anyone exploring this in research? If the hormones

of pregnancy, or something ABOUT pregnancy puts people into

remission... is there any research being done to explore WHY this is?

Could it help others? Does anyone know?

Lynn,

I don't know anything about if there is research going on about this or not but

I can share an experience. My daughter end up having her menstrual cycle with a

couple days off and then restarting. It was horrible and causing her to flare

even more. Her ped started her on low dose birth control pills. Being on them

has decreased certain things about her arthritis. So I do believe that there is

something to this. Perhaps the research is out there somewhere.
