Aren't most kids vacinated against Chicken Pox so that they don't get it

anymore? Infact I haven't seen a case of Chicken Pox in years. My oldest son

is 26 and my youngest is 3, so I've been looking at childhood illnesses for

YEARS. (i feel old). Its probably not chicken pox though. And if it is the

worse time was when the child had a fever. I'd just call your pediatrian and

ask them or the nurse. Let us know if its chicken pox though.

Does anyone know about the risks associated with JRA, Methotrexate and Chicken

Pox?

Bayly's half-brother has broken out in the suspicious spots, and we cannot get

him into a GP, nor onto Bayly's Rheumy!!

Jo,

Chicken pox and methotrexate can be a big problem. You need to call the

doc~~ either GP or rheumatologist and let them know that another child in

your family has it. They may want to start Bayly on some sort of antiviral

medication immediately.

I would call your Ruemy right away. They can be very tough on our kids.

My daughter Allie who is poly, got a case of the chicken pox even

though she had the shot. Her Rhuemy at the time prescribed some

medicine...sorry can't remember the name, and told us all the thing to

look for, and when to go to the hospital. It never happened. In fact

she threw up on the medication the doctor prescribed, so we stopped.

Then I heard about it at the next doctor visit. But, I would call right

away so you know what to look for. and Allie (8 poly)

Most kids are vaccinated against Chicken Pox, but the vaccination isn't 100%

effective - Many children still get Chicken Pox even if they've had the

vaccination, though if vaccinated they generally have a milder case. A very

good friend of Robbie's had the Chicken Pox recently (he had been vaccinated) -

though luckily we hadn't seen him in a couple of weeks (we really dodged the

bullet - they called to see if they could stop by one day, and we had plans so

they didn't come by - two days later his friend broke out with Chicken Pox -

Robbie hadn't been out of the hospital more than a week, and the pedi and rheumy

made it perfectly clear that if Rob had even been around anyone who had been

exposed we would be on our way back in the hospital for IVIG.) There had been

an outbreak at the friend's school and in the neighborhood. Chicken Pox is very

serious for any child taking medication that suppresses the immune system, it

can be fatal and should not be taken lightly.

Wow sounds very serious and I just like 2 minutes ago received a call from

my daughters Physical Therapy center that her PT just came down with the

Chicken pox! She was exposed to her PT 4 days before the PT started

breaking out! :-( I have a call in to the Ped Rheumy to see what to do.

The lady that called my mentioned a VZIG (not sure about the spelling or

even if that is right) Do any of you know what that is or what they may do

since she was exposed?

Thanks!
