Guest guest
My daughter takes Vioxx as well, but I am confused. I thought it was being pulled so that we wouldn't be able to get it anymore, am I wrong? My daughter does take 25mg and she only has 10 days left of pills. I put in a call tonight and left a message to see what we should do. Anyone else hear from the ped rheumys yet? Thanks. Guest guest
Helen - I missed the canker sore thing in earlier posts and not sure if this was mentioned, but keeps the canker sores in check by rinsing with Listerine twice a day. That has really helped him. There are lots of flavors so maybe this would help Nick. A little easier than mixing things together. If you have tried this or it was mentioned already, sorry for repeating. Hope you get this whole Vioxx thing settled. Just what we don't need is one more thing to worry about! Michele ( 17, pauci & spondy) More on Vioxx Nicks doctor called this evening and basically wants Nick to remain on Vioxx till she researches this more. She thinks its been blown a little out of proportion. But wants to investigate further and I'm sure find out what other ped rheumys are thinking. She did remind me that the problem lies with a 25mg dose in older patients with heart problems. Nick is currently on 12.5mg and theres been no mention of this dose, or with Vioxxs' use in pediatrics. Vioxx was just recently approved for use in Children. She wants me to call her back next week to discuss this further. I'm ok with Nick taking it for another week, but im not sure where i stand in the long run. It worries me, but then again, all these meds worry me. As for the canker sores, we are upping the folic acid to 2mg a day and seeing if that helps. I'm also mixing equal parts liquid benadryl and maloxx for Nick to swish in his mouth to help with the sores he already has. Who else here is on Vioxx?? any word from your doctors???? Guest guest
I called my daughter's Rhummy yesterday in reguards to her Vioxx, the nurse called back and said just to completely stop it and see how she does. It kinda scares me a bit not knowing if she is going to start hurting or not you know but i guess we will just see in time. also a friend of my mother's her rhummy told her to stop her Vioxx ( a few months ago) and start takeing 1 Aleve every 12 hours and i guess it is working fine on her. so it makes you wonder is somthing better than the other here lol.. well just wanted to put my input in here.. kellie & jessica 10 yr poly _________________________________________________________________ Check out Election 2004 for up-to-date election news, plus voter tools and more! http://special.msn.com/msn/election2004.armx
Guest guest
Helen - our Hunter takes naproxen instead of the vioxx - she hasn't had any trouble with stomach problems since she starting taking zantac with it. She did get sores in her mouth in the beginning - now we rinse her mouth out really good after taking any meds. I also incourage her to eat alot of strawberries and other foods that are high in folic acid. The sores finally stopped. I hope the school thing gets better, I am a pre-k teacher in our local public school system and I still had to get Hunter a 504 plan. Her teacher this year is great. Last years teacher thought she knew more than me or our Ped Rheumy. Hang in there if I can be of any help with school info and legal responsiblity of our schools let me know . Guest guest
Hi Helen, I do hope you'll both find that the mouth rinse works well to heal the sores that your Nick has. Others who have used it said it worked very well. That, along with the increased folic acid, should hopefully clear the problem up. If not, as Liz said, there's always leucovorin as a next step. It's folinic acid and doesn't normally cause any side effects at all, except that in some children who have seizure disorders there's an increase in the amount of seizure activity they have. It can also help to prevent and treat some types of anemia. I think you're taking the right approach, as far as the Vioxx issue. It's hard not to be startled when we hear about something like this that hits so close to home but I feel confident that your doctor will take every necessary precaution.
