Helen:Please, don't apologize. If you can't say it here, well, then why are we a support group! We're glad you are here and we so value everybody's input.

I am so sorry Nick isn't feeling well tonight. I, too get angry at what the disease steals from our kids. My was doing well at soccer until this disease put a stop to that. He just couldn't keep up, and couldn't deal with the pain. I know a lot of kids manage to still play sports that are on this list, but for is just wasn't the reality. He was a really good soccer player, too. I miss his games. So does he.

It is maddening also when your child appears to be doing well, and then BAM, a flare hits. Like Nick with his taper, like Robbie, who also had been playing ball until the arthritis flares up again.

I just keep thinking that perhaps in a decade, maybe, just maybe, there will be an easier 'fix' to arthritis. I don't think that our current research has even begun to scratch the surface of the complexities of the human immune system. Medical science is really quite young, when you think about it. Antibiotic therapy was begun sooooo long ago, and yet, we still have trouble fighting bacteria that have learned to mutate (staph)

Ok, I'm on my soapbox.

Helen, please vent here anytime you need...we are all here for you.

If my posts seem a little blunt and not too diplomatic tonight. I just re-read them and didnt realise i came across quite as bluntly as I did.Its just that I hate what this disease is putting all the kids ( and adults too) though. No one deserves to have to deal with this.Nick came home tonight, and just laid on the sofa. I asked if he was going to go out and play baseball. His dad is his coach this year and just picked up all the equipment for the team. Nick was eager this morning to go out and pratice with it when he got home from school. But he came in looking soo tired and worn out, he told me he might go out later and play, he didnt feel like it right now :o(((This disease is stopping my kid from playing baseball and im soo darn mad about it right now.....Hugs Helen and (6,systemic)

So true Robbin and at 38 years of age and 34 yrs of JRA behind me I can attest to this as a child, teen, young adult and adult!! It is the longest rollercoaster ride one could wish for. The ups are great and the downs are the pits but I think with faith, positive attitude and a support system you will find even when on the down side there is a way to look for the ups ....

ATTITUDEBy Swindoll"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on my life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company ... a church ... a home.

The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past ... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the string we have, and that is our attitude ...

I am convinced that life is ten percent what happens to me and ninety percent how I react to it. And so it is with you ... we are in charge of our attitudes."

Hugs and smiles to all!
