Hugs Helen, mom to (6,systemic) >> Hi Helen: LOL I haven't been on this list to long and you already notice when I am quiet:) I do tend to talk/post a lot:) What can I say, I'm an outgoing person:) We got back 's test results and she has tested positive for thyroid antibodies. She WILL develop Hashimoto Disease sometime in the future, we don't know when. Alyssa developed it at the age of 13 (well a month before). Right now Jen's thyroid levels are close to perfect so no need for Synthroid yet. This, however, doesn't answer the question of cold hands and feet. She has an appointment with Caitlin's rheumy (with Caitlin) on the 24th of this month. I guess I am just 'digesting' the fact that now is not only GHD, but someday also Hashimoto and now perhaps Raynaud's Phenomenon will be added to the list. Alyssa has Hashimoto Disease and, of course, Caitlin - well we don't even have a definitive dx on her yet. It just plain old stinks! I will stay positive though and be thankful because I know there are worse things out there. I, also, fell coming out of the shower (my husband left a puddle of water on the floor-honestly!) cut myself and messed up my right shoulder. It's hard to move my hand/arm without pain and it makes it hard to type too. So I've been laying off the computer lately. Will go to doctors soon if it's still bothering me. With all the time I go to the doctors with the kids, I really hate going for myself LOL - I am such a bad patient. Caitlin had a great week at school. Although she only went 3 half days due to two snow days LOL. Poor thing goes back and wham 2 days off. This week we have Friday off. All in all everything went well. No fatigue or flare. Although last night she had a horrible rash on both thighs (nasty looking like onset, but then it was all over) so I worried she might be starting to flare. I thought back over the day and asked my husband what dose he gave her for the steroid (just reviewing meds, etc. to see if I could figure out the cause for the nasty rash). Well, we are tapering yet again down to 5mg. Caitlin is on liquid Prednisone so it's hard to go down one mg. We have to give her a smidgen less than 2 mls. My husband thought I said a smidgen less than one ml. So she only got 2mgs instead of the 5mg (she's been on 6mg the last two weeks). So we figured out the probable reason - the steroid. I called the rheumy and he said not to panic and to hold off on the steroid until this morning. Ride it out if she could tolerate it. If it was still bad today, he was going to arrange to meet us at one of his offices. He said quite often the rash can come and go within days (something I've learned on this list). Sure enough, thankfully, the rash is almost completely gone this am (just like when it's on her hands at night). WHOHOO. Back on track with the 5mg of steroid. She even got a report card on her second day there LOL. She made the honor roll even after being out so long (they included her homebound work). She's thrilled. How's Nick doing? Fever still behaving itself? I hope he has a chance to play this weekend free of any fever/pain/swelling/rash. Thanks for asking about my household and Caitlin's first week back to school. You're a sweetie! Take care. Patty

You're most welcome. My husband sounds like yours. I usually handle everything medical related. I like your idea about the med sheet posted on your cabinet. I always worry about forgetting a med for the day (I usually check the journal at night time.) and dosage changes, etc. I think I'll do something like that and post it to the cabinet. Thanks for the idea:) Yes, thankfully (when the time comes) will have a 'simple' fix with a tiny pill - Synthroid. Makes me wonder about Caitlin and her thyroid. I think I will see about the doctor adding it to her next lab. That's all she would need is to have the thyroid go whacko and send everything out of control. Ouch, seems we are a like LOL - clumsy! Sorry to hear about your fall on the ice. Walking on ice always makes me nervous. I hope your knee feels better tomorrow. Is your oldest son in college in AZ? Home alone with five kids and a sore knee - you have your hands full. I hope some of the kids are helpful around the house, etc. Stay away from the ice and I'll stay away from water puddles, deal? Take care. Patty

Guest guest
HI Patty, Ive kinda come to the conclusion that if my JRA mailbox is lacking in posts, it means one of two things. Either Georgina has not posted any articles, or Pattys not written!! LOL. And I mean that in the nicest possible way. You have asked soo many great questions and I have learnt a lot from reading along. Thank you! I'm so happy to read that Caitlins week at school ( or what was left of the school week) went well. I bet you must feel somewhat relieved that nothing major is going on. Medication mix ups are a big fear of mine. So last weekend I sat down and designed an exel spreedsheet for this months dosing of Nicks different medications, printed it and posted on the door of the cupboard where i keep all the drugs. Nick now has his own shelf with just his stuff on it. Now everytime he takes something its marked off for that day. This way my husband will know exactly what ive already given Nick and whats needed yet for the day if Im not around. My husband is not too medically inclined so Ive had to do a lot of explaining whats going on with medications etc to him this week. My hubby will attend Nicks next appt so he can ask any questions etc. IM sorry to read of the tyhroid problem will have. While its never good to have something wrong with our children at least its something easierly correctable with medication. HOpefully it will be a LONG time till she needs to start taking the synthroid. Ill send a Nick update in another post.. i have a question to ask. But thanks for asking after him.. HUgs Helen, mom to (6,systemic) p.s Sorry about your fall..... We are having too much in common... I fell myself on Thursday, stepping out of the truck and slipping on some ice. I twisted my knee and while it felt better a little while after I did it, yesterday it was sore and today its even worse. Im sure its just a bunch of pulled muscles, but im kinda laid up on the sofa. Hence too much time on the laptop )). Doesnt help that hubby left to drive oldest son to AZ yesterday and im now home alone with 5 kids to watch!!
