Support In Silicone, Inc. is an organization that doesresearch to find the truth concerning silicone's causeand effect on the human body. We seek out the bestdoctors that do on-going studies concerning silicone. Each one is researching silicone, saline, and other typesof breast implants. They have written peer-reviewedarticles and studies. They photograph and video theremoval of breast implants for their studies. They alsotravel across the country to educate other doctors, nurses, attorneys, and silicone victims on what they havefound concerning silicone. Many are harassed because theyare informing us of the truth and trying to help us. Theyare fighting for our lives and I respect and love themfor it.Dr. of Houston, TX., Dr.Nachman Brautbar of Los Angeles, CA., Aristo VojdaniPh.D. of Beverly Hills, CA. and twenty-five other M.D.'sand Ph.D.'s wrote a book entitled, "International Journalof Occupational Medicine and Toxicology, Special Issue onSilicone Toxicity volume 4, Number 1, January-March1995." Published by Princeton Scientific Publishing Co,Inc. Princeton, New Jersey. This book explains howsilicone is released into your body, where it goes, whathappens to your system and how your body reacts to thesilicone. There are diagrams showing how silicone causesAtypical Connective Tissue Disease, and how siliconecauses Atypical Neurological Disorder. There is a sectionon "Silicone is a Potential Carcinogen", and a specialeditorial on "Is There Treatment for Silicone Toxicity?".I thank the doctors for all their hard work. There are many doctors across the country that are fighting this baffle for us, Dr. Doll of Baton Rouge, LA., Dr.Louis Espinoza of New Orleans, LA., Dr. Elliott Black IIIof Metairie, LA., Dr. Harch of New Orleans, LA., Dr. of New Orleans, LA., Dr. Church of NewOrleans, LA., Dr. Ira Lewy of Houston, TX., PiearrBlais of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Saul Puszkin Ph.D. ofNew York, N.Y., Dr. Arthur Brawer of Long Branch, N.J.,Dr. Bernard Patten and Dr. Britta Ostermeyer Shoaib ofHouston, TX., Dr. D. L. Smalley of Memphis, TN., Dr.Graham Wood of CA,, Dr. Henry of AR., Dr. L. FabianWorthing of Houston, TX, and many more. These are some ofthe doctors that are helping us when no onewould.Getting back to what S.I.S. is all about, it'ssupport, caring, information and education. One of themany things we do is allow the husbands, significantothers, relatives, friends, best friends and olderchildren to attend the support group meeting with you(Except on designated girls only night). We understandthey need to understand what you are going through andhave a place to ask their questions on dealing with you.I have had some loved ones call me later and say, "Thankyou for being there for her and for me as well. Now Iunderstand why she's hurting so much and why she can't dothe things we used to do. Now where can I take her to getsome help?" Or, "My wife needs her implants out, she'sscared but knows she needs them out." We offer severalnames and let them know if they would like one of usthere during surgery, we are there for them. Yes them, first she needs comfort and support and some times aprayer before she goes to surgery, then the relativeneeds someone to talk with while the surgery is takingplace. We explain what she is feeling when she awakes, where the drains are and how to empty them and watch howfast they fill. when to call the doctor. The doctor givesthere instructions which supports what we informed themon. We give little hints for comfort for the ride home.Sometimes when some of the ladies have no family orfriends some of our members stay with them or they staywith a member. I am very proud of our members and thework they do. There are groups all over the country andwe share information and tips on how to have a bettersupport group. We have sent information packets all overthe country and taken calls from people that wish tostart a group on their own. We encourage this becauseit's hard trying to travel all over giving talks. It'sexpensive and our energy does not last to long anymore. You've heard of the expression burning your candle onboth ends, well the support group leaders feel we have ahundred ends going. I answer my phone,(I have an answermachine so I won't miss a call) seven days a week twenty- four hours a day. I eat, drink, sleep, bath, andeverything else with a phone. I delegate calls sometimes, but most want to speak to me. We have trained the memberswell, they see films, I bring expert doctors to themeetings, we pass literature and exchange ideas- We leteach other know when someone needs help and share in thework. One of the problems some members face is troublewith their insurance companies, some companies tell themember they will not pay for their removal orreconstruction. We inform them of their rights and whatto do. They call back very pleased and tell us when theirsurgery is due. (Don't forget the BOYCOTT is stillon!!!)If we can help you in any way, support, information call us, 504-469-0277 or fax us at 504-469-5714 SUPPORT IN SILICONE, INC. Is just a call away.
