Guest guest
I buy my sauerkraut at Whole Foods. The brand is called Rejuvenative Foods. Here's their website http://www.rejuvenative.com/. On the bottom of the page it has a direct order form to order online. HTH.
Guest guest
Hello Tom, I use " Eden " organic sauerkraut www.edenfoods.com They have it at Sprouts Farmers Market(www.sprouts.com), if You are in CA, NV, AZ, TX. Only cabbage and sea salt. > > Hello everybody. Can some of you recommend some good organic sauerkraut that I can purchase, preferably, online from the U.S? Thanks a lot. > Tom >
Guest guest
We get ours from a company called Real Pickles, based in Massachusetts. Very expensive but excellent. > > Hello everybody. Guest guest
Thanks for the suggestions but, unfortunately, , I don't live near a Whole Foods and to have that brand of sauerkraut shipped from that website in an insulated package is $45.00. That is absolutely absurd. And niublau87, I was going to get the Eden brand but it's heated at 175 degrees. I'm assuming that kills many of the benefits. And , thanks, but you're right. $40.00 for 4 15 oz jars is just too expensive. Any other suggestions? Thanks. Tom > > > > Hello everybody. Thanks a lot. > Tom > Hi Tom, I'll be interested in the suggestions you get but I've found that organic sauerkraut is quite expensive. It's most economical to make your own. As pointed out to you this morning, it's not hard and a head of cabbage is a very inexpensive vegetable. Jackie (group moderator)
Guest guest
Does anybody know if the Eden brand is okay even if it's heated at 175 degrees? > > > > > Hello everybody. Guest guest
> > Does anybody know if the Eden brand is okay even if it's heated at 175 degrees? +++Hi Tom, If it is " heated to " less than the boiling point of water, which is 100°C (212°F), it is okay. You wrote heated " AT " 175 degrees F, not that the sauerkraut gets no higher than 175 degrees F in temperature. If the source of heat is 175 F and the sauerkraut is left on it long enough it could heat sauerkraut higher than 175 F. Bee
Guest guest
Bee, it just says on the label that it is heated at 175 degrees for five minutes and then packed. I'm assuming it's okay but would like to make sure. I wound up finding it at a local grocery store and bought two jars. > > > > Does anybody know if the Eden brand is okay even if it's heated at 175 degrees? > > +++Hi Tom, > > If it is " heated to " less than the boiling point of water, which is 100°C (212°F), it is okay. > > You wrote heated " AT " 175 degrees F, not that the sauerkraut gets no higher than 175 degrees F in temperature. > > If the source of heat is 175 F and the sauerkraut is left on it long enough it could heat sauerkraut higher than 175 F. > > Bee >
Guest guest
From Wills Valley I bought 2-30 ounce jars of their " Never Pasteurized " 100 per cent Organic Sauerkraut (over the Internet). www.willsvalley.com The cost was $21.50 PLUS the cost of shipping---which I learned only after the purchase, was over $10.00 more, bringing the total to $33.45. Indeed, it's not cheap, but I never had better. --Ken ...........
Guest guest
Ken, I love Wills Valley and when I ordered by phone, they told me the best value is when you buy 3 30-oz. jars. I guess shipping is the same for 2 or 3. In a message dated 5/23/2010 12:52:30 P.M. Guest guest
Hi I recently saw a video showing how to make homemade raw sauerkraut. chop one head of cabbage ,salt it, squeeze it, put it in a glass or ceramic container, let it sit out for 5 days...then you've got organic sauerkraut for a couple weeks. it takes about 30 - 45 min prep but it is worth it in my opinion. here's the link: http://www.foodrenegade.com/how-to-make-sauerkraut-other-fermented-vegetables/ happy krauting - sean > > Hello everybody. Guest guest
> > Is there a difference between regular sauerkraut and red cabbage sauerkraut? > no, there wouldn't be. Red Cabbage sauerkraut is just made with red cabbage instead of green cabbage.
