I can't remember who posted about acne but do not take antibiotics for it.

I was on tetracycline for years when I was a teenager for acne and it was a

huge mistake. First I don't think it helped at all. Second, It led to a

systemic yeast infection that took years and many doctors for anyone to

figure out what was wrong with me. I had very bad GI symptoms, fatigue etc

but then went on the yeast diet etc when I was 28. That helped a lot and I

felt the best I had since I was 15 but never felt totally normal. Then at

34 I got cfids and I wonder if my body was so worn out from all the yeast

years that it predisposed me to the cfids. If it did then I can blame my

being ill for over half my life on those antibiotics I took that I never

needed!! NOT WORTH IT, even if it had helped.

Hi Judy,

Welcome to the list!!! We have a great group of people here who are

genuinely concerned and willhelp all they can/ As for Rashelle and her tapes

they ar the best. I have tried countless things to lose weight and look and

feel better and little did I know I had all the equipment right at my finger

tips with my own body.

I have used Herpancine for eczema because they did say it was for al types

of skin irrations . It was a little pricey and I did stop using it but I

know I probably should get back on. I do take the evening primose oil for

the eczema.

For the marks under you eyes I have heard the Vitamin K cream works well for

that. I have not tried it yet but I plan to.

Have a great day and welcome again,

Rose

Acne

Hi everybody my name is Judy and I love this list - even though I never

post, just read. I hate to call myself a lurker - let's just say I'm

shy!

Rashelle's tapes and products are the best. We are all so lucky to have

found her.

I have had adult acne off and on (usually twice per month) for 30 years

- I'm 50. I've been waiting to grow out of it for a long -long time! I

have been using a product from the health food store called Herpanacine

and it's been wonderful for me. I guess I needed help from the inside

out, because topical products helped but never stopped it. It is

calming my son's acne which was has been very bad for years.

The only problem is that it is sorta pricey. But if I would add up all

I have spent for topical solutions over the years I'd probably faint

dead away.

Anybody have any solution for the ugly purple marks under my eyes? I've

had them since I've been 20 also and I hate-hate-hate them. They make

me look tired even after 8-10 hours of sleep.

Judy,

Welcome to the list! I am so glad that you decided to post your experiences

and questions with us. I don't have any answers, but I do know that we have

many knowledgeable people on this list that will probably be able to help you

out.

Yes, you are very correct in mentioning how wonderful Rashelle and her

products are. Isn't it great to find a way to natural thinness, better

health, and have this kind of personal interaction with the creator of Lift

Lift, to boot! I truly believe that this is where the line between our

success and failure is drawn. Since we are all unique individuals, it stands

to reason that we would have our own problems and obstacles to overcome. I

think that if I was still using BF, I would be lost. Without Rashelle's

expertise helping and encouraging us along, many of us would never know why

we weren't seeing our desired results.

Well, have a great day, and once again, welcome!

Sincerely,

Tami

Tami,

You have summed that up very nice. I feel that we have a whole body program

here with LifeLift. We can feed our minds with positiveness,

work our bodies aerobically without jumping and killing ourselves, taking

care of our skin with great products, just doing wonders for our bodies

with the reflexology and the list goes on and on plus having Rashelle's

expertise to boot.

I have always been interested in health, fitness and beauty info. I like to

read about all that " Stuff " . I have been so impressed with Rashelle's

knowledge and also the ladies on the list as well.

Rashelle is such an inspiration to me.

I was an informercial queen too as someone stated on one of the other posts

but I do feel I do not really need all the " gadgets " anymore due to the fact

we have LIFE LIFT!!!!!!!!!!!

I to orginally started with Body Flex but I am so thankful I had found LL,

Rashelle and all of you.

Everyone have a great night!!!!!!!!!!!!

Neem is the answer. Lavender and Tea Tree also help in a topical

solution. Neem in soap helps so many skin disorders, I'm hard

pressed to name any that are not helped.

Hi,

I have made a solution for my teenage daughter to use. She does not have a

serious problem with acne, just a little in the " T zone " . One thing to do is

make an astringent that can be used all over the face. I have made an

infusion out of garden sage, thyme, rosemary, lemon balm, and mint. This is

good for a somewhat oily skin. Of course this will not keep for very long

without a preservative. I will mix a small amount of this infusion with

" storebought " witch hazel, about 1/1 and it will keep for awhile

unrefrigerated. You can add a few drops of lavender eo if you want. I then

freeze the rest of the infusion in small quantities for later use. Also, I

use different combinations of the above herbs. Another thing I have made for

" spot " use is: First make a tincture (use everclear or vodka)out of the same

herbs--let sit for a couple of weeks--strain off and use 1/1 with distilled

water and add a few drops of tea tree oil. This is fairly strong, so only

use on the outbreak areas. This has worked well for my daughter.

I think I may have stumbled on a nasty little

secret...have your daughter reduce the amount of milk and dairy products

in

her diet..

Thanks Cat,

Oooh, that's a good point. I forgot about what milk does to my skin.

I'm all broken out and have been dieting using Slimfast with milk every

day. My face is a mess. (and I'm not all that thinner, so not a good

trade off! :)

After trying so many different acne products that either dried out my skin

or made it flake and peel, I think I may have stumbled on a nasty little

secret...have your daughter reduce the amount of milk and dairy products in

her diet...my skin has cleared up remarkably just by doing that!

Someone told me the hormones in the milk are the culprit...maybe a switch to

organic milk and cheese if she is really a dairy-lover.

Supplementing her diet with echinacea, garlic, beta carotene, zinc, as well

as a good multi-vitamin also seems to help.

Anyway, I've been wiping his face with these new Stridex facial wipes

(replaces having to use soap and water), but he is still getting them mostly

on his forehead. Then to top it off, he picks at them.....not popping them,

but when he feels a bump anywhere on his body he tends to pick at it. The

ones on his face we do not pick but he scratched at them and when they get a

scab he scratches at that till they bleed. Anything I can do besides saying

" , stop PICKING! "

OH yes, from an experienced acne sufferer I can tell you that those stridex

pads can make your skin feel funny. Maybe try having him rinse his face well

after using them. Any of the over the counter preparations with benzoyl

peroxide are good but they can dry the skin and make him more prone to

scratching.

Sometimes a doctor will give oral antibiotics to decrease the acne.

Good luck,

We just had a discussion about this Sunday at one of our support group's get

dermatologists to get medication that clears it up ... nothing else seems to

work as well.

my NDA 22 yo, used a cream perscribed by a derm. (the name of which I

can't remember) It worked great, but (isn't there always abut, hehe) she

also had problems with it drying out her skin to much. I beleive that you

can also get a pill, which is what one of the oldest child's friends used,

and that worked very well for her.

Both do require perscriptions.

Tj has been treated with oral antibiotics and that didn't work. We also

tried every cleanser, etc. available to no avail. He finally had to go on

acutune (sp?) for several months. That did the trick. While on it his face

was so dry that he had to put eucerin cream on and blistex on his lips. It's

very expensive....Tim's insurance picked up a portion but we still paid over

100.00 a month. We finally got my insurance to pick up the difference (made

for a nice check right before going on vacation). I would not want on

this medication though.

Saw a special on the morning news this morning that cautioned that acutane

can cause psychosis, depression and has been linked to suicides. A senator

whose son committed suicide last spring was interviewed. Did anyone else

see this? The FDA is now making the label explain this warning more clearly

where before it said " may cause mood changes "

I saw this. Evidently, doctors and pharmacists have known about this for a

long time, but it's only now getting out to consumers. The connection is

really between the use of the drug and depression, not to suicide.

The report said that it is overprescribed right now, that it is really for

cases of acne that are far worse than those cases it is used for.

Lou,

I heard something about that a few weeks ago. I personally took accutane

while in high school and believe that I made it through OK.(at least I think

so)It is definitely a serious drug though and the decision to use it should

not be made lightly. There are other things that can and should be tried

first.

From today's news:

The American Academy of Dermatology

Supports Education for Patients Using

Accutane

October 6, 2000

SCHAUMBURG, Ill., Oct. 5

The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD)

supports education, not regulation, of physicians

and patients using Accutane to treat severe

cystic acne. However, an advisory panel to the

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently

heard testimony concerning Accutane and is

considering placing it on a list of drugs that can

only be obtained by registered physicians and

patients.

" As dermatologists, we strongly believe that

limiting access to Accutane is a disservice to

patients and erodes the patient/physician

relationship, " said K. Scher, M.D.,

President of the AAD. " The FDA's limitation of it

will severely affect the lives of tens of

thousands of teenagers, men and women. "

Last month, during hearings before the advisory

panel on the risks of Accutane, testimony was

given regarding the use of the drug during

pregnancy and the possible psychological side

effects such as depression and suicide.

" Depression is a common problem in adolescents

with or without acne. The links between suicide

or depression and Accutane are unclear, " said

Dr. Scher. " To our knowledge, studies addressing

this issue are yet to be completed and/or made

available in medical literature. "

According to testimony presented during the

hearing, there are several alternate risk factors

that are more likely to be associated with

depression and suicide than the use of

Accutane.

" As dermatologists, we know that acne is a

serious disease that takes a psychological toll on

patients, " said Dr. Scher. " Many acne patients

report feeling insecure, inferior, maladjusted, and

even depressed, especially those patients with

severe cystic acne, which can only be treated

by Accutane. Education, not regulation, is the

key to safe use of this drug. "

Another issue raised during the hearing included

the precautions needed by women of

childbearing age when taking this drug, including

discussions on adequate forms of birth control

and monthly pregnancy tests. Since isotretinoin

may cause birth defects, women in this age

group must take the utmost precautions to

prevent pregnancy during this therapy.

Accutane is an extremely valuable treatment for

the care of destructive cystic acne. Since the

product's introduction in 1982, Accutane has

proven to be the only medication that safely and

effectively controls severe cystic acne, the most

serious form of this skin disease.

The American Academy of Dermatology, founded

in 1938, is the largest, most influential, and most

representative of all dermatologic associations.

With a membership over 12,000 dermatologists

worldwide, the Academy is committed to:

advancing the science and art of medicine and

surgery related to the skin; advocating high

standards in clinical practice, education, and

research in dermatology; supporting and

enhancing patient care; and promoting a lifetime

of healthier skin, hair, and nails. For more

Dr Cheney said with my b-12 shots that I could develop acne due to

a, I am getting acne or at least skin is breaking out since I started

Transfer Factor (4Life). I'm thinking this is a good detox sign.

To Laurie and Tamara and Marge,

Very many thanks for your recipes. We are busy getting

ingredients together(not easy as we are miles from health shops

and suppliers generally) and will try them.

I don't often communicate, but I do appreciate and enjoy all the

advice and help. Thanks again

I am a new soaper. I attended a class in the fall on CP soapmaking. Our

teacher made a batch of pumace olive oil, lye, water and lavendar soap. It

is quite drying. Too drying for me. I have since made a batch of Milk'n

Honey-Oatmeal bars. This soap is more moisturizing, but since I failed to

add the borax, there's not a bubble to be found. My main concern though is

for my 14 year old son. He has acne on his face and back. His father

suffered this same fate. Is there someone out there who can give me a great

soap recipe for his acne. He likes the drying soap, but there's only one

square left, additionally it didn't solve his problem, it just didn't make it

any worse. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated by both of

us.

Another blend would be a bit of peppermint in with the tee tree. Now,

something else that is supposed to be very nice for the skin is sandalwood

EO. I have a book that recommends it especially in shaving soap for black

men, as they are more prone to ingrown hairs with their beards. I know it is

expensive, but it wouldnt take that much to make a light cream ( or buy a

base from a good company) and have him use this as a moisturizer also. Good

Luck

it will help his skin too.

You may try deluting in a carrier oil and adding lavender EO as well.

Also, has he tried taking milk thistle internally??  Have a great day.
