Guest guest
> I have heard that vitamin C is used as a laxative/stool softener in Europe and marketed as such. Can anyone send me a couple of good links explaining the physiological mechanisms, dose recommendations.> Aloe Vera juice is good in forming soft stools. Vitamin C does have a cleansing and healing effect. The amounts would be about 5,000 to 20,000mg daily. Basically what you are wanting to do is an Ascorbic Acid Flush. Getting this out of my book...Place 1,000mg of ascorbic acid in a cup of water or juice. To make this drink, use ascorbic acid in the form of either Ester C or a buffered product such as calcium ascorbate. Anyway, take every half hour, keeping track of how much has been taken, until diarrhea results. Subtract 1 from this amount, and take the resulting ascorbic acid drink every four hours for one to two days. During therapy, make sure the stook retains a tapioca-like consistency. If it again becomes watery, decrease dosage as necessary. Repeat therapy once a month. If you need the info for infants and children, I have that in this book too. Prescription for Nutritional Healing. Also, if you are wanting to do more of a cleansing look at www.herbsfirst.com. They have a great lower bowel cleanse, blood purifying formula, liver-gall bladder, and kidney cleanse. I'll be trying this soon myself. I just have a few more herbs to stock up on, so I can capsulate these myself. Hope this helps! Guest guest
Hi Bee, I just receieved my Iherb order in the mail and noticed that I accidently bought Vitamin C plus bioflavonoids and rosehips instead of the regular one. Can I still take this? And if so do I still take 4,000 mg a day? Thank you Keri

Guest guest
There is more than one issue with vitamin C. First of all, it is acid, so it can have some affect on the digestive tract. (In many this means diarrhea, but I think in some it can be heartburn.) Secondly, there is the source of the vitamin C. Most vitamin C is made from corn now. Corn is a highly allergenic food, & often GMO (meaning we don't know WHAT it could do to you.) So there is no telling what could be in it to upset your stomach. Thirdly, there is the issue of purity. Some of the pharmaceutical grade C products are so thoroughly purified that all toxic & allergenic molecules have (supposedly) been removed, even if they were originally derived from corn. (Many of the powders on the market are pharmaceutical grade.)The new liposomal vitamin Cs have been generally found to cause little or no digestive trouble. The commercial ones are quite expensive. There is a home-made version; it is less expensive. It is probably also less effective, but you can afford to take more of it, so that kind of works out. (If you want instructions to make your own LC, you can write to me off-list.)AnneOn Feb 25, 2011, at 11:28 AM, Ariel Monserrat wrote: I'm taking tablet vitamin C from the drug store but it is giving me horrendous heartburn. Guest guest
Try taking it with food, if you aren't already or just switch brands and see if that solves the issue. Also make sure you are drinking water during the day. Drugstores don't usually carry quality vitamin or mineral supplements. Health food stores, Whole Foods, chiropractors, or nutritionists would be good sources. Or try ordering online from Vitacost, I-Herb, Vitamin Shoppe, etc. There are lots of online places that carry quality supplements.LinnOn Feb 25, 2011, at 3:48 PM, Ariel Monserrat wrote: good question, I don't know, the label doesn't make it clear, my husband couldn't find it either!ArielOn Fri, Feb 25, 2011 at 4:44 PM, Linn <linnmiller@...> wrote: Ariel,What brand of Vit C are you taking?LinnOn Feb 25, 2011, at 1:46 PM, Ariel Monserrat wrote: thank you Ido. Guest guest
Most any one that is buffered with calcium or other minerals will probably do you much better. What I use, and really like, is a powder that fizzes in water to make a drink that is a mixture of calcium, magnesium, potassium, & zinc ascorbates that yields 4 grams of vit.c per tsp. of the powder, plus you get the minerals too. It is also quite economical. It's called C-Salts, found here: http://nutri.com/index.cfm/product/54_1/c-salts-26-oz.cfmJudyThey that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever. Guest guest
Another good alternative is Amla -- which comes powdered or in tablets (still powdery); it is usually combined w/spirulina (to remove the bitter taste of the amla berry). It also is kind=does not cause heartburn. > > > >> > >> > >> I'm taking tablet vitamin C from the drug store but it is giving me > >> horrendous heartburn. Guest guest
Thank you for the recommendation! This just arrived a few days ago and is perfect for the whole family. I can give the kids 1/16th or 1/8th of a teaspoon in their water, and they don't even notice.
