Guest guest
No , never heard of that one, (goodness what a looong name!) the carnitine was added in with more as a neccessity from the valproate/keto diet mix, and I have to say I didn't know toooo much about it till I had to go searching after it hit the fan with him seizure wise each time we tried it. You could maybe give the carnitine one more go to make sure it wasn't just coincidental timing seizure wise, but I guess if you are like me with , you are probably not too keen on taking that risk.... ----- Original Message ----- From: angel_lts@... , Thanks for the info. I really didnt know this. I thought it would be safe for me. I was hoping to get my metabolism working a little better so I dont keep gaining weight so easily. I was thinking about trying cla-conjugated-linoleic-acid-tonalin. Do you know anything about this product? How safe it is for people with epilepsy? thanks again
Guest guest
No It is to risky and I dont feel like going through that again. thanks lisa > No , never heard of that one, (goodness what a looong name!) the carnitine was added in with more as a neccessity from the valproate/keto diet mix, and I have to say I didn't know toooo much about it till I had to go searching after it hit the fan with him seizure wise each time we tried it. > You could maybe give the carnitine one more go to make sure it wasn't just coincidental timing seizure wise, but I guess if you are like me with , you are probably not too keen on taking that risk.... > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: angel_lts@y... > > > > , Thanks for the info. Guest guest
Listmates, I just had lunch with Crayhon who wrote the book " The Carnitine Miracle " and his thoughts were that since carnitine gets right into the mitochondria and may kick out toxins that the reaction some of you are having is do to this action. My daughter Tasya is on 500 mg of pure L-carnitine from Labs with no side-effects. My suggestion (purely through observation and not to be construed as medical advice) is if you have these reactions, adding 250-500 mg of glycine may resolve that. Guest guest
This is something similar to what happened with - both times we tried it with him he was on a benzodiazepene medication, the doses of which, he was borderline intolerant to. Adding the carnitine helped with more efficient tansportation of waste products ( I guess in any detoxification process the inital result will be a form of toxicity as the toxins eek out) and also more efficent utilisation of caloric fat from his ketogenic diet. Higher levels of ketosis usually brings with it a more acidic ph, and that ph change can also affect the protein binding mechanisms of medications. This is what I meant in my earlier post where I said that in 's case I don't believe it was an adverse reaction to the carnitine itself per se, it was more of a chain reaction scenario that happened as a result of supplementing with it. Altogether it proved to be overkill for him, benzos and the valproate he was also on, are both ones that store in fatty tissues. He basically did go plain 'toxic' and in his case ufortunately with that, came what we surmise were toxicity induced seizures. He ended up having to have the carnitine AND the benzodiazepines cold turkied, and for anyone who has ever tried to wean themselves or their children off the benzo class of med will know how very dangerous that can be, and therefore not a decision that was made lightly, by either us or the hospital staff. We have a happy ending (well for the past 10 mths anyways) with a seizure free kiddie no longer on the toxic benzos, but that was not a path that came easily. Guest guest
Mark, I am afraid to try again. But I really took it for metabolising, for I feel my system is so screwed up. I really didnt know how good or bad it was for epilepsy. I am going to try cla-conjugated-linoleic-acid-tonalin instead. But I am trying to find out as much info as possible so I dont have a seizure. Do you know anything about it? Is it safe for epilepsy?
