Guest guest
I think it depends on your curve, your health, and what kind of scoliosis you have. I investigated a program that stressed diet, exercise, bracing, and therapy long before we considered surgery. They couldn't show case studies proving that a TL C-curve over 65 degrees could be successfully treated and, when the curve is progressing fast (above usual rate of 1-2 degrees a year), you have to think carefully about whether you can afford to take the time with unproven treatments. For those it works for....great and God bless you. Marcia Treatment for scoliosis > I have serve scoliosis and doctors have told me to go through > surgery.. Guest guest
Hi Silver_Lining... For children with scoliosis, bracing is often effective in stopping the progression of curves. Braces work on children by changing the vertebrae's growth plates, which influences the shape of the vertebrae. In adults, the growth plates are completely formed and cannot be changed. If a brace worn by an adult full-time doesn't work, there is no way that other forms of pressure will work. Unfortunately, for adults, the only way to stop the progression or correct curves is surgery. Regards,

If your scoliosis is indeed severe, then it is no wonder that the doctors recomend surgery. It is the only way to permanently correct a curve. Contrary to what you believe, the surgery is far from risky. It is a very common procedure with generally successful results. The sooner a person has it, then the better the possible outcome. Any type of surgery contains risks undoubtedly. I have had spinal fusion to correct my curve and am so glad that I did. My back is straight, and my scars are fading. Enduring a good amount of pain for a few weeks is nothing compared to spending half a lifetime enduring treatments, drugs, exercises, etc. I would advise you to talk to other people who have had the surgery as well ~~ <}}}}><
Guest guest
Hi Sophie, Your daughter's(what's her name) scoloiosis can be heartbreaking, but there is some hope for improving her spine without surgery. Dr.Bruce West,MD wrote in his newsletter Healtyh Alert, of February 2003 about some curvature being relieved through exercises and more severe curvature helped by the Pneumex technique used by some chiropractors, orthopedists and physical therapists.Painless treatments use both exercises and and a mechanism similar to a harness. To find out more and in order to find a practituioner using the technique go to www.pneumex.com You're going to turn this situation around by starting to use the natural potential you and your child were meant to enjoy. For most of our health problems god or nature has supplied a solution and it is out there, but we have to find it and use it. Keep on trying and you will find it. Good luck, arnold
Guest guest
Hello Arnold, Unfortunately, our daughter a has already had the Scoliosis repair. She had it done in 1999 before her 13th birthday. They usually do them later but hers was at the point that her lung was being compressed by her ribcage and was at 40% lung capacity which is the minimum requirement for them to be able to perform the (12 hour) procedure. Now looking back, we believe that's when all her health problems started. What we do know is that it disrupted her " sympathetic system " ...she has had one cold clammy foot and one dry warm foot ever since then. I'm having a hard time finding information on healing the Sympathetic System...that's the one when we mention it to " all " her doctors they just give us the " shrug & hmm " . I found something in my many searches called Quantum touch which, had I known about it back then or the Pneumex technique, may have corrected it and saved us all a lot of grief especially for a. They show pictures before and after and you can definitely see improvement. Her gallbladder was removed Jan. 2004. Because she doesn't play outside like " normal " kids and doesn't walk well she very seldom spends time outside in the sun. It's almost like she doesn't like to go outside. I know we have to do something (?) to help compensate for the function of the gallbladder and that's what brought me here. Arnold, I'm still trying to figure out how to get " into " the forum. It's telling me I have an Invalid Password and/or ID #. If and when I ever figure it out do you think it would be appropriate to post a's 17.5 year history, a tad long but a lot has happened in those few short years of her life?? I absolutely believe what you said " God or nature has supplied a solution and it is out there but we have to find it and use it. I also believe what Hippocrates ( 460-377 BC) had to say: " Natural forces within us are the true healers of disease " Or " If we could give every individual the right amount of nourishment and exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have found the safest way to health " .
