Guest guest
My son had problems with Zarotin - hyperactivity Depakote - raging behavior - manic-depressive -weight gain and hair loss Lamictal - manic-depressive, rage, hallucinations He is now on Zonegran with no visable side effects so far...oddly enough the Neuro was hesitant to put him on this since so many others have had severe side effects. What works for one can be awful for someone else - " One man's meat is another man's poison. " Whatever you try proceed slowly, watch everything and I would always assume that anything different is likely related to the meds. Good Luck,
Guest guest
, How much is your son taking of Zonegran and what were some of the severe side effects your doc was talking about. My daughter is also on Zonegran and some of the side effects I see are speech problems and poor concentration. She is currently taking 25mg in the morning and 50mg in the evening. I tried to call my neuro to let him know these side effects and he said that the first priority was to control the seizures and that her speech and concentration problems are secondary. He also told me to reduce it to 25mg in the morning and 25mg in the evening but that if the seizures came back that I would have to raise it again. She's been on this dose for 2 weeks now and I am willing to give it another week to see if these side effects get better, but if not, I will reduce it. How long has your son been taking it and is it controlling his seizures. My daughter has partial seizures that generalize and so far she seems to be doing good except for the auras that she has sometimes. Guest guest
Good luck Grace. I am glad he is someone you feel is really trying to make sure he not only stops the seizures but makes sure her quality of life is not affected by her medications. I was concerned as I had a Neuro in the past that recommended raising the dosage on a drug that was causing my son to see things that weren't there and had him raging so much he tried to push me down a flight of stairs, kicked me in the testicles, smeared feces all over his room. It was a nightmare and yet all he cared about was getting rid of the seizures first and we would deal with the side effects by raising the doseage and " maybe adding another drug later to counteract the side effects. " It was like an episode of the The Twilight Zone. Sometimes these guys are just off the wall
Guest guest
, I know what you mean, but that's why I'm here to make sure we get some control of 's seizures as well as have a good quality of life. Like I said, he did tell me to reduce the med to see if that would help the speech and the attention, but I'm the one that wants to give it another week just to see if it gets better as it happened before. We have to be advocates for our children and my neuro already knows that I am definitely doing that because when was on Trileptal and her seizures increased with the increase in dosage, I told him that if I was going to increase it that it was going to be at a much slower pace and even with that it still didn't help so I told him to take her off of it completely and that's when we began Zonegran.
