Hi Esther and everyone,

I think this is a good idea. By starting at the top of the thyroid

industry, maybe we can start getting people to think differently and stop

this barbaric practice. Let me think about this a bit and I'll come up with

something.

Dear Esther,

What great information--I have printed it out. Maybe we should orchestrate

some kind of letter-writing or petition campaign. I hesitate to ask to

take on even more, but he probably has the most impressive background, and

most extensive knowledge--although others on this board, such as those who

have written books, and, I think, some who are doctors, have excellent

credentials as well. We should perhaps have a form letter that we all can

print out, sign and send, written by one of us who can write

w/medical/technical language.

What do you all think of this idea?

We can also send a cyber-petition to the Thyroid Society and Thyroid

Foundation, written by or someone else, and signed by as many of us as

possible. I agree it should be written so that it represents our

intelligence in this matter, rather than sounding like we're just a bit of

radical weirdos. I honor my body, including my thyroid and will not

willfully let anyone destroy any part of it. Period! I don't think that's

radical, I think that's intelligent and sensible.

Hey fellow listers,

I'm glad that Shomon wants to do a feature article ar her website,

one of the most informative sites for thyroid patients.

I've already emailed her, and would like to ask those concerned by RAI

to do the same, and join efforts. Yes, it is a very good idea to start

sending letters to all thyroid associations, but I would suggest to get

organized first. This is why I have founded " Atomic Women " club

http://clubs./clubs/atomicwomen

so that we could start sticking together, sharing stories and problems

caused by RAI treatment, so that a massive sending can be done, and

not only one dozen or two of individuals writing, what

might happen they wouldn't be taken into account...

In addition, this sharing would provide with many data to be quoted in

our mailing to doctors and associations.

I'm a RAI'ed gravesian -to my eternal regret-

RAI has contributed to the development of my opthalmopathy.

I went through two walls, both eyes, decompression surgery. No fun!.

So I'm not very fond of RAI, and there is no doctor in the world who

can convince me that RAI does some good as a treatment for Graves'

disease.

Many more data can be quoted. How RAI affects other organs.

How dose is calculated (???), according to the " estimated " weight of

the gland.

How hypo-stage is even desirable, as many doctors suggest.

How AMA does recommend it, mainly because it is the cheapest and " easy

to take " , as it is one only dose. The miss to say that we should be

obliged to take " daily pill doses " for the rest of our lives...

Etc.

Let's stop this mutilation to our healthy gland. Graves' is a

functional problem, and the thyroid itself has nothig wrong.

Let's be more pro-active crying out loud for more research.

This campaign, as Elaine said, has in some way started a couple of

months ago, when as few as two persons ('Redhen' and me), started a

mailing list called atomicwomenonelist and a site called

" International League of Atomic Women " .

Esther, we are grown up people, and sage people too. I agree with you

and also wouldn't like to be taken as a bit of radical weirdos.

Kind regards.
