Dr. Aisen,

We corresponded a few months ago, when you quoted from a nonpublished

HBOT-for-cp " study " headed by UCLA's Oppenheim, an orthopedic

surgeon, who's stated that " cerebral palsy is big business. " The study

was organized and financed by UCP's Murray Goldstein (see " Keeping the

Palsy in Cerebral Palsy " at

http://ihausa.org/newsletters/newsletter/pdf/2004_Oct_Nov.pdf)

..

The monies from this study originated from contributions made to UCP

from the Volcker Foundation.

It's now come to my attention that before, during, and after this time

period your predecessor, Goldstein, was a member of the Board of

Directors of WEMOVE (http://www.wemove.org), whereas WEMOVE was

created/formed by Allergan--the manufacturer of Botox. See page 26 of

the 2006 Form 990 at

http://www.guidestar.org/FinDocuments/2007/133/847/2007-133847563-03b54e5f-9.pdf

This is a clear and direct conflict of interest for Goldstein. When

cerebral palsy children get hyperbaric oxygen therapy their spasticity

is relieved and they have no need of Botox.

The FDA has confirmed nearly 60 deaths from Botox, including about a

dozen deaths of cerebral palsy children from off-label Botox. This

resulted in the FDA mandating a change in labeling of Botox, surely

unprecedented since Botox for CP is already off-label. See

http://www.fda.gov/cder/drug/early_comm/botulinum_CP_response.pdf

No child has died from off-label HBOT.

A few questions.

1. What other conflicts of interest did Goldstein have at UCP?

2. Do you have any conflicts of interest in your position at UCP?

3. Will you please provide me a copy of the UCLA HBOT " study " financed

by Goldstein/UCP.

Thank you,

Freels
