Guest guest
, I have read your post and would like to post a response - The enclosed story was sent to me by Dr. Neubauer before the AAHA team went to Washington, DC in April of this year. It is a confirmation of what really happened when Drs. Teller, PhD, and Dr. Neubauer, MD, went to Washington, DC in 1993-95 for the purpose of saving hyperbaric medicine in the United States. I can also confirm this information to be correct because of my close communication and work with Drs. Teller and Neubauer in Hyperbaric Medicine. Maybe we should be thankful to Dr. Teller and Dr. Neubauer for all the work they collectively and individually have done in hyperbaric medicine throughout the years. Guest guest
{Since the original story was somehow deleted from the first post to MedicareforHBOT, I thought I would re-post it here} The REAL story about Drs. Teller and Neubauer in Washington: Patty Weible. From: A. Neubauer, MD, Ocean Hyperbaric Neurological Center RE: The late Teller salvation of the field of hyperbaric medicine in the United States. " In 1993 Dr. Teller met me in Washington, DC for a very specific purpose. The then HCFA (Health Care Finance Association [no longer in existence]) decided that hyperbaric oxygenation reimbursement should be totally discontinued with the exception of decompression illness. This is exactly what happened in Germany and many centers went bankrupt. Thirteen conditions were approved and had been so reimbursed over a number of years. This led to an investigation by the government which found that there was not enough double-blind control cross over studies to justify reimbursement, this situation would have closed hundreds of centers throughout the United States. agreed to meet with the head officials. We had two meetings. With 's charm, reputation and being one of the two geniuses of the centery thay not only listened to him but they wanted photographs and his autograph. is very simple terms explained to them that oxygen under pressure is a mechanism by which oxygen is delivered directly to the cell for immediate metabolic use without energy exchange even with compromised circulation. This simple explanation coming from such a talanted scientist convinced them that the program should remain in tact and actually be expanded. Thus the whole hyperbaric community in the United States owes its current existence to the late Dr. Teller, PhD. Following this accomplishment I received a very nice letter from the UHMS dated January 13, 1994, thanking me and the American College of Hyperbaric Medicine - of which I was a founder - for the tremendous effort after regaining and retaining physician reimbursement for hyperbaric oxygen therapy. This was signed by james Clard, MD, PhD, President, and Leon Greenbaum, PhD, Executive Director. None of this would have been possible with my highly respected friend, colleague and patient Teller. " R. A. Neubauer, MD This is your complimentary issue of the REAL story. Patty Weible
Guest guest
I am personally thankful beyond words for what Dr. Neubauer has done. I know that Dr. Teller was very special to Dr. Neubauer for his work too. I told Dr. Neubauer in 1999, that because he fought so many battles through the years - my son (our children) are able to have HBO for brain injury. I know that he was ostracized from main stream medical groups and he did this for the love of helping people. He dedicated his life to helping others with improving theirs when there was no hope given. I am personally thankful for him and love him dearly. I wish that I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Teller as I know he was also an incredible man. Sincerely, Tammy
