Guest guest
Any device that is implanted should not be a problem in the chamber, especially at the pressures that are used to treat cerebral palsy and seizures. However it is always a good idea to double check with the manufacturer. Vagal nerve stimulators are as effective as anticonvulsants, and are another choice for people with seizures. For some patients, vagal nerve stimulators are a miracle cure. For other patients vagal nerve stimulators are of minimal benefit. It is reasonable to pursue HBOT. Guest guest
Rita- Any implanted device will have a unique serial number and a phone number to contact with questions. The manufacturer will be able to verify that the individual device is safe for increased-pressure environments. I have treated many patients with implanted devices over the years without incident. I do recommend that the hyperbaric facility call to verify that the specific device is safe, but as a general rule they aren't a problem. -Jay Jay A Rain, DMT, CHT Director South Coast Hyperbaric Medicine & Wound Care Center 3 Professional Park Drive Webster, Texas 77598 281.554.8848 " He Heals most Successfully those in which he has the most confidence " - Galen [ ] VNS and HBO Has anyone treated a person who has a VNS nagus nerve stimulation for seizures? Guest guest
Yes I have two children, I have them remove the magnet before they enter the chamber. I write the manufacture for a written statement that it can undergo pressure and oxygen.. Guest guest
Check with Cyberonic, the manufacture as to the dive level. I know of a Dr. who will be providing HBOT for a person with a VNS. I do not know if he has ever treated an individual with the VNS, but the Dr. raised the question as to what level the VNS should be in. We are still waiting for an answer, however, I just contacted Cyberonic's about 4 days ago. Virginia
