I'm about to taper off prednisone, and started azathioprine (Imuran) in 10-03 and will likely be on it through next year. I have red dots now too, which may or may not be due to either medicine. Please read (and have your husband read) the article Jerry (gefox) posted on 7-21-04. It will explain what will happen without medication (grim life expectancy), and typical treatment periods (continue for at least one year, once you achieve normal blood tests). While you search for a new doc, you may want to share the article with your doc too; I can't imagine why he'd taper you completely off prednisone so soon.
