Cece,

I have had the same experience as you. As my numbers have gotten better and

better, I have experienced pain in the liver area that I never noticed

before. Whose to know??!! Anyway, congratulations on your great results.

HI everyone....my name is Jerry and I joined this group in 2000...I was

off line for a long time and have been just lately reading posts again,

As some the older members can tell you I spent a lot of time researching

AIH and liver problems and other questions that come up here from time

to time. (It seems the same questions are raised from time to time).

As far as Liver function (which is a misnomer by the way, as the

numbers don't actually tell you how your liver is FUNCTIONING)...damage

can be continuing and your numbers are still in normal range. Ergo just

because you're " normal " doesn't mean that side pain should go away. The

liver by the way has no pain receptors and the pain may be the liver

pushing against the sac that contains it which does have pain receptors.

I have tons of stuff in my files which I haven't visited in a long time

but I'll see what info I can find ..it might take awhile.

love jerry

Jerry thanks so much for the info. So what your saying is that damage can still be happening even though my numbers are good? Then should I tell my liver specialist in a couple of weeks or something if the pain continues.

Glad you came back to help us, if theres anthing I can help you with let me know.

thanks nne...good to be back...I basically took as sabatical...the

research and stuff became too tiring and time consuming. I hope all is

well with you and the others....

I hear we've lost Ginger and anne's husband. I am so very sorry to

hear that. May God grant grace on their families, They have my sincere

sympathies.

Cece.... give the treatment some time to work.... the clinical (LFTs)

are usually ahead of the histological results.

Of course if the pain persists make your Doc aware of it...have you had

a biosy..that's the real way to assess what damage has been done.

Once the liver becomes severly damaged the LFTs will not be of any use

as the liver can't make the enzymes that are measured as well as before.

I had end-stage cirrhosis and they no longer monitored such things as

asts or alts since they would not show up anymore. More important was my

serum albumin and serum billirubin since they showed how my liver was

actually " functioning "

Don't get me wrong the LFTs still give an indication that damage is

being done...so low numbers are a good sign, more or less.

Yes Jerry thanks a million, the article on AIH was the best I've seen, I cannot tell you how informative it was to read.I was diagnosed 11 years ago, and still gleened new information today reading it, and here I thought over the years I had kept abreast of AIH!!!! Have a great day, I am so grateful for your posting..........................cece elzerman <elzermanc@...> wrote:
