Jess,

Riley got her first DOC band at 6 months and she needed more

correction after she grew out of it (3.5 mos). The neuro prescribed

a second one at 10 months and she's doing great! We've already seen

improvement in the 5 weeks she's been in the 2nd. I say GO FOR IT!

I'm so happy we did!

Hi Jess,

wore his helmet for 3 months (from 8 months to 11 months) before

outgrowing it. Our orthotist deemed us graduated, but we still

thought we could see additional improvement if we casted for a second

band. It was recommended that we wait about a week to think about it

and then checked with our ped and an affiliate orthotist for their

input. Both agreed we still had room for a fair amount of

improvement. So tomorrow we'll re-band after being out of a

helmet for nearly a month. Although I'll certainly miss his soft

head which I've become reacquainted with, I'm looking forward to the

helmet-head for some much-needed protection!

Perhaps waiting it out for a week or two will allow you to sort

through the pros & cons of re-banding. I know that for us it was

such a relief not to rush our decision. Just an idea. Best of luck

to you and Bryce. Follow your instincts as they rarely lead you

astray.

Take care,

e :)

Wow Jess,

What a difficult decision. It is my understanding that the sutures

normally don't close until the child is over 1 year old. But how

much growth does the head do after a certain time? I would find out

how much more his head would grow and at what rate to see if it would

be worth it for you to go through this. I believe there are many out

there who's children are over the age of 1 year and are successfully

using the band. Hopefully they will post with some input too.

Good luck in your decision.

Jess,

That is great news on Bryce. I say go for it because of all the

families who have started the band after a year and are seeing

improvement. Plus the sutures don't permanantly fuse till around 24

months so you still have time. Use your mommy instincts to decide

what is right for you and your little guy whatever that may be. Good

Luck and keep us posted.
