Guest guest
Hi Everyone, This is such an amazing site. Thank you for the wealth of information. I have been a Mercola-ite for some time; so much of the info is familiar. My daughter (age 19) has been struggling with yeast infections for over a year. As you know, the allopathic MDs have been of no help, but surprisingly the two NDs we've seen so far have been equally clueless. But enough griping... We're here now. She started your program about a month ago. After having read through the startup materials, phasing in some additional supplements (she already took a number) and very gradually phasing out fruits and carbs, she was doing pretty well. Then some college friends came to visit and some major junk-food bingeing occurred, setting off a full-fledged yeast infection. She has implemented the itch-control tactics to keep her (more or less) sane, but, given that back-to-school is only a few weeks away, we’ve realized that we really need to ramp up the eating protocol. SO, we have nearly eliminated fruits and carbs. And boy is she hungry! This has made me realize that she won’t last very long on this diet once she returns to school. Especially given that she is in a dorm and on a required eating plan (which means Mom won’t be preparing all the homemade meals and mayos and dressings and etc, etc). There IS a common room with a stove, but knowing what her schedule was like last year, it is unrealistic to think she will have time to prepare meals (or the $$ to do so). She wants to commit to this (and knows it is a long haul—about 1.5 years), so I’m pretty sure she will be able resist the sweet potato fries and the gooey chocolate chip cookies at the snack bar as well as the late-night pizza calls, but I fear the dining hall carbs will call to her—especially since she does sports and will need some serious training energy. I guess what I need to know is what “lesser-evil” cheat foods can she have to keep her as much on the plan as possible and still give her the energy she needs? More specifically, might the following foods be okay, so long as she doesn’t overdo it: *Organic Unsalted Brown Rice cakes with a thin layer of Raw Almond Butter (I saw your source for soaked, dehydrated nut butters and will be playing power ball tonight in the hopes that I will be able to splurge. For now, this is what I can afford.) *Kombucha –the plain version, with no added fruit. *Homemade granola (OG oats, homemade raw OG butter, unsweetened coconut, a tiny bit of honey, and a sprinkle of raisins). She had been eating the things before the binge incident, with no ill effects, and they had been keeping her appetite more or less in check. How much would it slow her progress to add them back? And is there anything else you can recommend, especially once training begins? She will have a small refrigerator in her room. And I do plan to send her with a few pints of OG Virgin Coconut Oil to drizzle on dining hall meals, as well as her supplements, and maybe a container of Miso, which she could use to make soup. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated, as well as general advice about how to manage this process while living on campus. Thank you so much for whatever advice you can give!
