Guest guest
Hi Mona, This has been happening to me too since I went on Armour (after radioiodine induced hypoT). In my case I think it has to do with finally having normal levels of T3 and the other hormone precursors T2 and T1. When I was on Synthroid (T4) the gray was out of control. Guest guest
Zoey, The best measurement of T3 is the FT3 level, but the total T3 is OK too since it's not as readily influenced by binding proteins at T4 is. There is no commercially available test for T2 and T1. In the initial step of thyroid hormone product T2 (diiodotyrosine or DIT) and T1 (monoiodotyrosine or MIT) are made. In a coupling reacting, they combine to form T4 and T3. In the last few years, researchers have found that T2 is needed to make the enzyme that converts T4 to T3 in the body. Little is known about T1. When you're hypothyroid and take T4 alone, your body may convert enough T4 into T3 for your body's needs. Then again, it may not. And unless you have enough thyroid function left that your body is making T1 and T2, this conversion is impaired. So people like me, who have little or no thyroid function left, do better on glandular extracts like Armour. I disn't know ignatia helped hair. I used to take it daily. I'm glad to hear your hair is improving. E
Guest guest
I just have a feeling it's because I'm normal levels again. Those grey hairs are like wire so I like the idea of the mid-growth switch! I keep reading bad things about Synthroid, seems more folks are happier not using that particular med. Guest guest
Hi Elaine, When you say your T3 levels are normal, exactly which T3 are you talking about. Also, what tests do you take to check on your T1 and T2? Thanks My hair appears to be rapidly growing in. As far as I know, there's no greyness at the roots but then I can't really see the roots. I'll ask later and let you know what he says. My nails have also been growing very fast and very hard. All of this is since following people's suggestions here and taking biotin and msm. I've also been taking silica, a formula called " Ultra Hair " put out by 'Nature's Plus', and a 1m dose of homeopathic Ignatia. The ignatia I take once a week. The others I take daily. I don't which one is doing the trick so I continue to take them all. Thank you all for your help. Guest guest
I've been following this hair thread with great interest and thinking about how my two boys never cut their hair. But that was then and this is now. Both still wear their hair long, however. My eldest looks like an old testament prophet. :^) granny --- " For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Guest guest
Hi, I am in my 9 month of the second round of combo. The first time I lost a ton of hair mostly in the front. (very depressing) It all grew back and actually came in thicker. I relapsed and went back on combo and this time my hair started to fall out but not nearly as bad as the last time. I am still on treatment and it appears to have stopped thinning. Hair is already growing back to replace what was lost. I did use Nioxin this time but not the first time. So I would say there is a good possibility that the Nioxin did help. Certainly can't hurt to try. Good luck! Beth

Guest guest
I am not sure what it is I will ask her. Told her to hang on to it (I think it is the one you wrote about). You know that is really rotten she paid $50 for it and it's a ruse. I am at 12 months altogether with the 3 months of regular and agressive dosage. 9 months with the agressive dosage of Interferon. I have noticed lots of the longer hair is missing, and you can see my scalp also. My neighbor saw something on the Health channel that is cheap and supposedly works. Get Head and Shoulders and Tea Tree oil, put 10 drops of oil in shampoo and use it, I bought Wal-Mart brand of H & S and it burned my head I suppose from where I have scratched the skin off.. I used the H & S shampoo last night. Scalp feels better today. I had forgotten to hit send when I first wrote this. Take Care, Connie Having hair at this time is one of my lesser worries too. --- <smith50@...> wrote: > Connie, > My hair is coming out too. If she bought Nioxin > stuff I heard it doesn;t work. Guest guest
Connie, this is what terrifies me about treatment. Sheeesh, already my hair is falling out...really, really thin on the top. I have to get creative as it is. I read somewhere about a woman who has dark red hair like mine, she got her daughter to use an eyebrow pencil and draw hair in where she's thinning. I tried it. It works!! For now. I also have some expensive stuff that my b/f bought me, but haven't used it yet. If I were you, I would wait till after treatment. It would be a futile exercise right now. If I gotta go on treatment, then I'm heading to nearest wig shop pronto...hair before rent or food. That's my motto. I've also seen some very well done scarves that look good. I think you can get trained free how to use them by a chemotherapy clinic. Might be something to look into? How much longer on you on treatment? Maybe I could order a wig through the internet and have it delivered to you, then you could send it to me when it's my turn. Hmmmmm, something to think about.
